Primitive Jumbo Christmas Ornament

I absolutely love how this one came together! I wanted to create something that felt old, worn, primitive and handmade—like a Christmas piece that has been tucked away and brought out year after year.

I started with a large round base painted in a deep Muscadine W**e, then added an embossed vintage-inspired center finished in warm chocolate tones and wrapped it with chunky jute.

For the bow, I mixed several of my favorite primitive fabrics—red gingham, ticking stripe, vintage red and cream prints—leaving all those wonderful frayed edges showing. A few natural pinecones tucked into the center were the perfect finishing touch.

And that black ornament cap? It was just a little too new and perfect for me. So, of course, I’m going to rust it with cinnamon! I want some of the black to peek through underneath so it looks like an old, weathered piece of metal.

This is exactly the direction I’m heading for my primitive Christmas collection this year—rich reds, ticking, jute, rusty metals, pinecones, natural wood, aged finishes and lots of beautiful imperfections.

Old. Worn. Rustic. Imperfect. And made with love.
