"As a hobby, David Hinson (1955 – 2010) became fascinated with antique food production methods and equipment back in the 1980’s after purchasing a farm in his hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina. Home cooked molasses and fresh pressed apple cider were the first products Dave made and in doing so, it occurred to him that these foods were exactly as they would have been, by manufacturing methods and taste, hundreds of years earlier. He was hooked on the idea of recreating authentic tasting foods with pure ingredients, “prepared in the ways passed down from ‘The Old School.’”

Around 1989 Dave purchased an antique stone burr mill. Building a small structure to house the equipment, Dave began the tedious process of restoring the equipment and learning milling. In 1992, Old School Brand™ began selling our first grits and corn meal products. That same year, Dave conceptualized and began producing about 25 additional items to accompany the corn products in the Old School Brand™ line." - Excerpt from their website.

It's hard to believe, but it's already that time of year to begin thinking of our summer decor! Grace and Judy rolled out some awesome patriotic items last week in their booth. The woven trivets make a wonderful hostess gift for all those summer gatherings! Come see us soon!

Here's a nice synopsis of our upcoming festival the third Saturday in June!

In the little Tennessee town of Bell Buckle, the RC Cola-MoonPie Festival always makes for one of the summer’s most memorable events and is set to take place again this June 20th! Running from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., this well-known celebration turns the quiet downtown into a full day of music, contests, food, and nonstop fun centered around MoonPies and ice-cold RC Cola.

The morning kicks off early with the 10-mile and 5K races at 7 a.m., followed by awards and a free breakfast for runners. By 9 a.m., craft vendors and the food court are open while live clogging performances take the stage. At 11:15 a.m., the RC Cola and MoonPie Parade winds through town with colorful floats and local groups. Guests can take part in games, contests, and the crowning of the festival King and Queen before the day builds to the 3 p.m. cutting of the World’s Largest MoonPie, made by Chattanooga Bakery, the original creator of MoonPies since 1917.

The pairing of RC Cola and MoonPies became popular in the early 1900s as an affordable working-class lunch, and today this festival remains one of the most unique small-town celebrations anywhere in the South. Make your plans now to come on out and join in the fun in just a couple of short months here in Bell Buckle, TN!
