WELCOME TO COLLECTED STORIES🩵✨

A new series exploring the provenance, artistry, and stories behind exceptional pieces in the Eclectic Whimsy collection.

Our inaugural feature: an original 1996 Lee Lessem sculpture, Seated Woman.

Constructed entirely from recycled paper, Lessem’s sculptural figures occupy an intriguing space between fine art, fashion, and objet d’art. Each work was meticulously formed by hand, making every sculpture inherently singular.

Signed and dated 1996 and personally authenticated by the artist, this is an original work from a distinctive period of Lessem’s practice. She has since confirmed that she no longer creates her paper sculptures.

Elegant, eccentric, and wonderfully unexpected, Seated Woman is the kind of work that rewards a discerning eye and brings a sense of provenance and personality to a collected interior.

An original work for the collector who appreciates the uncommon.

Wesley the Westie here! I’ve officially promoted myself to ⭐️Head of Sales⭐️ at Eclectic Whimsy.

My mom finds the vintage treasures, I handle quality control, client relations, and looking extremely adorable next to the merchandise.

If you like one-of-a-kind furniture, unexpected décor, and pieces with a little personality (like myself), you’re in the right place.

Consider this our little reintroduction.

I’m Darby, founder, curator, and the eye for design behind Eclectic Whimsy. And this is Westie, my West Highland White Terrier, who sometimes seems to think he’s actually the boss around here.

Eclectic Whimsy is an online shop for vintage, rare, and one-of-a-kind furniture, art, lighting, and décor. I love styling and showcasing pieces from our current inventory, along with a few coming soon, to show the possibilities behind every great find.

My hope is that you find more than just a treasure for your space. Think of this page as a place for design inspiration, vintage and antique education, stories about artists, makers, brands, and time periods, the perfect gift, or that piece you didn’t know you needed until you found it right here. And, of course, the occasional laugh from our spokes-dog, Westie.

I take pride in every piece I source, from the quality and condition of each find to the care that goes into packaging and delivery. #
Sometimes you know exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you never knew to look for.

That’s the fun of Eclectic Whimsy!

What actually makes a space look “expensive”?

It’s usually NOT buying everything NEW.

The rooms that feel elevated, collected, and designer-inspired almost always have:
• A mix of old and new
• Vintage pieces with character
• Layered textures
• Statement lighting
• Decor that looks discovered, not mass ordered

That contrast is what creates depth, warmth, and personality, and honestly, that’s what people remember.

Vintage doesn’t work when everything feels the same. It works when it stands out.

Here are 3 rules to get it right:

1. Mix eras
Pair antique pieces with modern furniture to keep your space feeling current, not dated.

2. Use contrast
Balance clean lines with texture, aged finishes, and detail.

3.Let one piece lead
Don’t overcrowd it. One strong vintage piece should anchor the room.

Save this for your next reset.

Accents of red and gold done right change everything.

It’s warmth, richness, and just enough drama to make a space feel intentional. An ornate gold peacock sculpture, a deep red vase, a touch of brass, each piece layered to create depth you can’t replicate with mass-produced decor.

These are the details that turn a room into something memorable. Pieces with history, character, and a presence that stands on their own.

Explore the collection and find the one that speaks to you.
