My best subjects are portraits. I have been sculpting on and off since a very young age, and I have produced several heads of well known celebrities, politicians, movie stars, and historians. Also, bust of horses, dogs, and fish. This work involves much concentration, coordination, and fine eyes. This covers some methods, types of chalk, tools used, and the benefits and disadvantages of using this
material. It's main benefit, it's softness, makes it very easy to carve. It is able to hold a reasonable amount of detail. This is also a serious disadvantage as chalk structure tends to be very delicate. Chalk is also extremely brittle and dusty. In my opinion, chalk is the most difficult to shape, as the material may literally powder away in my hands if I am not delicate in handling it. A piece of chalk can also have many defects and voids in its structure, making chalk carvings a very difficult and precise art. However, it is readily available, and easy to work with. The simplest of materials. Natural chalk is available in more interesting shapes, and the size is not limited. The tools that I use for carving are several sewing needles, a single edge razor blade, and a ball of cotton. After carving, I coat the chalk in buttom polish to produce a finish. Once I have a feel for the material, it is possible to construct fairly complex shapes and to make figures. They have been known to make exceptional conversation pieces and gifts. My art is measured by how much one is afraid to tell. I am showing it in the persistent hope of telling the truth, because nothing else can be afforded. I have something very real and vital, with which to enrich society. At times, it is difficult for the viewer to understand completely what is being said. This is understandable, because no one knows the emotional exchange that I have gone through to create my figures. I can change the art world. I must change the art world, I will change the art world with my authenticity by continuing to sculpt faces, horses, manatees, fish, mascots, and last but not least my miniatures shoes made out of leather. I see myself as being who can make a major impact in the world of fine arts and I just want to see how much of a footprint I can leave on earth before I leave.
