💡 Thinking About Refinishing Your Kitchen Cabinets? Here’s What to Expect on Cost

One of the first questions we get asked at Paint the South is:
👉 “How much does it cost to have my kitchen cabinets refinished?”

The truth is—it depends on the size of your kitchen and the condition of your cabinets, but here’s a general guide to give you a roundabout idea:

🔹 Small Kitchens (10–15 doors/drawers)
👉 Typically $1,500–$2,500

🔹 Medium Kitchens (20–30 doors/drawers)
👉 Typically $2,500–$4,000

🔹 Large Kitchens (35+ doors/drawers)
👉 Typically $4,000–$6,500+

✨ A few things that affect cost:
• Number of doors/drawers
• Prep work needed (repairs, sanding, cleaning buildup, etc.)
• Finish or color you choose (bright whites + custom colors often take more coats)
• If you want hardware updated at the same time

📌 Why refinishing instead of replacing?
• Much more affordable than a full remodel
• Keeps your existing cabinet layout
• Transforms the look and feel of your entire kitchen
• Professionally done = smooth, factory-like finish that lasts

If you’re planning to get a quote, this should give you a realistic ballpark before reaching out. Every kitchen is unique, so we’ll give you a personalized estimate when we come out to see your space.

One of the hardest things for me to wrap my head around…
and honestly, one of the reasons we’ve tried to walk away from this business more than once…
is this:

People want the quality,
but they don’t want to pay the price.
And I don’t just mean the price in dollars.
I mean the price we pay to do it right.

And the truth is—
that’s just not our target clientele.
Not because we’re too good,
but because we know the cost.

The prep work,
the classes,
the tools,
the sleepless nights,
the tears,
the prayers over every job site,
the moments we wanted to give up but didn’t.

We’ve invested so much to learn how to do it the right way.
Not the fastest, not the flashiest—
but the most faithful.

And somewhere along the way,
I realized this isn’t just a service.
It’s a stewardship.
This business is a ministry.
And when we show up,
we’re not just bringing tools and paint.
We’re bringing honor.
We’re bringing excellence.
We’re doing it unto the Lord.

So no—
you’re not just paying for paint and labor.
You’re paying for the years it took to learn this craft.
You’re paying for the integrity we refuse to compromise on.
You’re paying for the kind of care that doesn’t cut corners.

And if you’re a Kingdom business owner—
you probably feel this in your bones.
You carry the weight of doing things well,
when doing it fast or cheap would be so much easier.
You care too much.
You work too hard.
You pray too much
to be treated like your craft is common.

But don’t water it down to be palatable.
Don’t cheapen the oil.
Don’t lay down your excellence
to chase the approval of people
who don’t understand the cost of the anointing.

There’s an art to the craft.
And it’s more than skill.
It’s the Spirit behind it.

Back to the Drawing Board. Again.

This week, we were presented with what looked like an incredible opportunity—one of those “next level” jobs that seemed like it could open all the right doors. But once we stepped into it, we realized pretty quickly: it wasn’t what we expected.

We’ve been to this exact moment before—excited, hopeful, then face-to-face with a tough call. And just like last time, we had to decide: do we keep pushing forward in something that doesn’t feel true to who we are, or do we pause and protect what we’ve built with integrity?

We chose to protect it.

What we’ve learned through this is simple but powerful: we are not meant for commercial painting. The personal connection, the transformation of a family’s space—that’s what makes Paint the South…. different. That’s what we love. When the job loses that personal touch, it starts to feel like we’re losing us.

So, we’re back at the drawing board. We’ve sat down with our business plan. We’re listening. Adjusting. Letting failure teach us—not define us. And as painful as it is when failure feels like it costs you your name, your time, your money, or your peace… it also reveals something priceless:

Clarity.
Conviction.
Character.

There’s no amount of money worth trading for the integrity we’ve fought to keep. And even when we don’t fully know what’s next, we know what’s not. And that, in itself, is a step forward.

Art Is What’s In Your Hands

If you had told me years ago that my sister would be a tattoo artist, I would’ve laughed. Not because she’s not talented—but because it just wasn’t something we ever pictured. But now… her and her husband are absolutely thriving. And I am so beyond proud of them. She’s not just good at what she does—she’s called to it.

Something she used to say to me a lot was:

“Everything is art.”

At the time, I didn’t fully get it.
I’d smile and say “yeah,” but I’d tuck it away on a shelf somewhere in my mind.

But now I see it.

Everything is art.
Everything we do—if it comes from the heart, from love, from the Spirit inside of us—is creative. Because we are made in the image of the Creator.

And that means everything becomes sacred when it’s surrendered.

Whether you’re tattooing or plumbing, nursing or mothering, painting cabinets or designing buildings—
If you’re doing it as a steward of what God placed in your hands, it’s art.
And if you’re doing it as a form of love and worship—it’s holy.

For so long I thought creativity belonged to the “artsy” people. But now I see that creativity is simply taking what God gave you and using it to bring beauty, order, and life into the world.

It’s not just how we do it—it’s why we do it.
And that’s what keeps drawing me back to Paint the South.
It’s more than just paint.
It’s more than business.
It’s my way of worship.
It’s how I say thank You with what I’ve been given.

So I’m leaning in.
To the beauty of doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.
To honoring the creative spirit in each of us.
To letting this business be an altar.

And I hope it stirs someone else to see their own work—not just as a job, but as art.

Mom & Dad snuck away for a “Summer Worship Night” with Brandon Lake & Phil Wickham 🎶✨ Meanwhile, the kids stayed with Aunt Mae-Mae & Uncle Nathan and had the best night exploring the farm 🚜 Lili is in a full-on excavator phase, so getting up close and personal with the big machines made her whole week!

We’re soaking in the little joys of this season—worship, tractors, and toddlers. 💛

We may be hiring soon, but before we post anything official, we want to be clear about what we expect—and what we offer in return.

This is a business built on excellence. That means we don’t just want workers—we want driven individuals who take pride in what they put their hands to.

🔒 What We’re Unwavering On:
• Dependability — show up, on time, ready.
• Excellence — in every brushstroke, every detail.
• Respect — for our clients, the space, and each other.
• Efficiency — work smart, not just hard.

Experience in painting is preferred, but not required. If you’re teachable, detail-oriented, and take ownership, we can train you.

We offer:
• A respectful workplace
• Fair pay based on skill, effort, and consistency
• A leadership team that wants to see you grow
• A chance to be part of something that could go far

This won’t be for everyone. But if you’re someone who values quality, has a strong work ethic, and wants to be part of something bigger—we’d love to talk soon.

Stay tuned. 👀
