Has anyone here ever painted a ceiling brown? I’m curious. We moved into an old, 136 year old farm house last year and we’re slowly remodeling. We can’t afford to remodel with original stuff since everything was stripped out before we bought. Our ceilings are low, about 7’ and we can’t afford wood on the ceiling and I’m pondering painting it brown. We have white cabinets and a new black granite countertop.

Okay so I bought this house and the window crank had no lever and never sat right in the window. Finally made it to the stage of looking at this. What am I missing? If the crank mechanism sits flush with the mounting holes the arm cannot be bolted with the rest of the window system. For anyone that has worked with this, does something look missing?
Best I can gather these types of windows were common in the 60s-70s and that’s well before my time. Any insight is welcome!

Just a note to say thank you for all your input on my last post (for which commenting was turned off for some reason). My husband and I were absolutely blown away by everyone’s kindness and willingness to share your knowledge. It has really transformed our vision!
I haven’t had time to implement most of your amazing suggestions yet, but I did change up the mantel decor and added a couple of double-light half-barrel sconce shades to cover the bare candelabra bulbs and offset the width of the surround. Someone also mentioned a Hitchcock chair and I happened to have one nearby! Thank you all - this is such a great forum.

Hey guys, my mid 50’s ranch is wired with old 2 wire romex type wiring with no ground wire and I’m updating the outlets to 3 prong outlets. My question is do I need to add a ground wire? And what do I ground it too?

Busy day at the schoolhouse. Today was metal detecting the crawlspace day and we were very excited when we got a signal on something large buried completely in the dirt. After digging a while we pulled out part of one of the original school desks. We also found some old bottles and square nails. The old center wall is gone and new footer holes have been started. Finished the tuck pointing inside and we have 3 different mortar samples installed outside. We will make a determination on which one is the best match after it dries.
