Summer operations, a peak inside my small business.
I can't speak for all flower shop owners, but 20 years in the industry (almost 10 of those owning my own business) here are my truths, full transparency. (I love talking all things business.)
June and July are brutally slow, I don't love it, but I am ok with it. The good months allow me to financially plan for it. The busy months put plenty of projects on the back burner to fill the slow days around the shop. Being slow also translates to, me being needed less, which allows me sacred time with my kids in the summer.
A stat for you, our sales this week are 85% less than what they were a month ago. I share all of this to justify, explain the following....
Business 101, I must scale my business. My fresh flower orders are very small, with a limited color pallete, and typically long lasting common varieties. The small weekly shipments ensure we are sending out the freshest flowers we can.
➡️My ask.....Please be patient with us if you have a last minute order for something specific OR if you know it is coming up please order early. I would be happy to accommodate your request if we have time to source what you want. I order for the week on Monday for a Tuesday delivery.
This goes hand in hand with our summer hours, we too scale our labor. Currently our hours are M-F 10am-4pm (but we might even shorten it more in July based on June sales). The ever evolving decisions of a small business owner....
