June is … Pollinators + PRIDE. Sunshine and rainbows. Peonies! Dinners on the patio. Graduations and birthdays. Rising to sunshine. Breezy evening walks. Glowy sunsets. Wildflowers. Afternoon thunderstorms. Gardens planted. Dinners with home grown herbs. Birds teaching their babies to fly. Shade from fully grown canopies. Bare feet and garden hoses. Summer. Solstice. Today we celebrate our “December” graduating from high school. Like the changing seasons, this change ushers in a new chapter for our family and our soon-to-be empty nest. As we’ve watched the baby robins fly the nest around us this spring, we can’t help but see Nathan, and we couldn’t be more proud of him. Proud of his determination, creativity, leadership, quick wit, and gentle heart and soul. Often the first to the top of the mountain during our hikes, he still pauses enough to notice the snail on the trail to run back and share what he found. We know that whatever path he takes - it will be winding, full of adventure, fun, unexpected finds, and have a few obstacles along the way. He starts his new season on the banks of the red cedar. Celebrating forests is our jam! Trees are pretty amazing creatures - they communicate via fungal networks at their roots, share and trade vital nutrients with each other, see the value in having their neighbors thrive, talk to each other AND other species thru chemical signals in the air, are older and live longer than us humans, learn to adapt to changing landscapes and weather …. And that’s not even listing all the benefits they give to so many species, including us. The more science is uncovering, the more intelligent they seem. We could learn so much from them. So protect them while they’re still here, because once they’re gone, it takes more than a human lifetime to get them back.

Spring is finally in full swing here in the mitten, the frogs are out and singing with full force. Morels are starting to rear their heads. We’re excited to get back into the woods! T-shirts one day, sweaters the next. Worms on the sidewalks. Baby Robins peeping from their nests. Trees are exploding with color. Asparagus is extra delicious. Gardens are sprouting. Sunshine wedged between drippy days. So much to look forward to - Inner peace.
