Looking at these pictures now, I almost can’t believe this is where it all began. ❤️
Precious Petals Florist & Gifts. 🌸
A little sign out front, a tiny shop tucked into the lower level of an old building at Schrock’s Amish Farm, and me standing underneath that sign having absolutely no idea where this little business would eventually take me.
It wasn’t fancy. Not even close. 😂
Cinderblock walls, lattice panels for displaying wreaths, a little counter, buckets of flowers and gifts tucked anywhere I could find room. I filled every corner because I wanted so badly for it to feel like a real flower shop.
And somehow, it did.
I was learning everything as I went—what to order, what would sell, how to price things, how to make customers happy, and how in the world to make enough money to keep the doors open.
My very first Valentine’s Day brought a Level 3 snow emergency. Then came an economic crash. Not exactly the easiest introduction to owning a business. 😂
But I kept going.
I made arrangements, delivered flowers, started doing weddings and learned with every order and probably every mistake.
And while I was building a business, my boys were growing up right there with me. They played there, ate there, helped me, and one even became my tiny Teleflora delivery guy. 😂 The flower shop wasn’t separate from our lives—it was part of their childhood.
Eventually, that little shop wasn’t big enough anymore.
Five years later I moved to my second location. Seven years after that came an even bigger storefront. Precious Petals eventually became Petals & Co. Floral Design, and three years ago I brought the business home.
When I look at that little shop now, I don’t see how small it was.
I see where I started.
A young mom with two little boys who decided she was going to build something and just kept showing up, making flowers and figuring out the next thing.
And apparently, that’s been enough. ❤️🌸
