Artisan Colors Inspired by Peru: Inca
https://amaz-usa.com/shop/solid-peruvian-teak-inca
The Inca civilization had a special relationship with stone, which informed their entire culture and was key to their empire-building success. The Incas’ power in the Andes region was displayed through massive stone constructions and large-scale earthworks up precipitously steep slopes. The Incas believed that stones could display volition and personality. Stones could become tired and refuse to be transported. In some cases, the land itself was seen as belonging to a particular stone. Some Inca building techniques and features are iconic. Walls included several types of coursing and some contained rocks at the base so massive that it seemed impossible the Incas could have transported and shaped them by hand.

At a depth of 10,725 feet, the Colca Canyon is one of the deepest in the world. It was carved by the Colca river, eroding volcanic rock as it flowed near 40 active volcanos. The river forms a valley that has been cultivated since pre-Inca times making agriculture and raising livestock the main economic activities of this area for thousands of years. Descendants of the Collagua Indians live deep within the canyon unaffected by modern civilization and continue to live in the traditional fashion of their ancestors. The canyon is also home to a unique ecosystem of Andean animals such as as llamas, alpacas, guanacos, vicuñas, pumas, and the Condor, an endangered bird species.

Artisan Colors Inspired by Peru: Nazca
https://amaz-usa.com/shop/solid-peruvian-teak-nazca
The Nazca Lines are a collection of giant geoglyphs—designs or motifs etched into the ground—located in the Peruvian coastal plain on one of the driest desert on earth. Anthropologists believe the Nazca culture created the majority of the Nazca Lines 2,000 years ago by removing the top layer of iron oxide-coated pebbles, revealing the lighter-colored sand below. Even after 80 years of study, the archaeological site’s construction still remains a mystery to researchers. It spans over 75,000 hectares and depicts various plants, animals, and shapes that can only be fully viewed from the air. The geoglyphs have remained largely unscathed throughout the centuries because the desert gets a low amount of rain and wind.

We, your neighbors at Amaz Floors in Exton, believe that affordable houses can be built with sustainable materials that will improve indoor living environments for families. Real hardwood is the safest eco-friendly flooring option for residential homes, so it’s our goal to show builders and homeowners why wood floors are worth the investment. To kick-off the launch of our new flooring collection, we have donated Solid Core Engineered Peruvian Teak to Habitat for Humanity of Chester County because healthy communities start with healthy homes.

Chivay, known as the gateway to the Colca Canyon, is a small rustic town nestled in the Colca Valley in southern Peru. The route from Arequipa, Peru’s second most populated city, to Chivay is a scenic journey along the Patapampa Pass. At it’s highest point, the pass reaches an elevation of 16,109 feet. Four volcanoes, including Ampato, Sacanbaya, Hualca-Hualca, and El Misti, reside here. These volcanoes produce a unique type of volcanic rock called sillar, which has great architectural significance to the surrounding towns. Many colonial buildings, most notably in Arequipa, were constructed from this material. Pink sillar comes from volcanoes that produce crystals of hematite within the rock while white sillar does not contain these crystals.

Artisan Colors Inspired by Peru: Cusco
https://amaz-usa.com/shop/engineered-peruvian-teak-cusco
From the 13th-19th century, Cusco was the capital city of the Inca empire located in southeastern Peru. During the Spanish conquest, most cities built by the Inca civilization were destroyed, but Machu Picchu survived because it was hidden in the Andes mountains, making it one of the most well-preserved archeological gems. It features more than 150 buildings ranging from baths and houses to temples and sanctuaries - many built from stone blocks that weighed over 50 pounds. Historians believe that the Incas had pushed these stones up the steep mountain side without using wheels. Although weathered, and basking in sun, this ancient architecture still stands thanks to its well-built construction.

A wood’s grain, or its orientation of wood-cell fibers, is one of the top reasons why so many people still chose hardwood flooring over bamboo, laminate, or vinyl. Lets explore why bamboo, laminate, or vinyl cannot truly imitate real hardwood no matter how hard it tries.
