The Woodland Pixie

The Woodland Pixie Dyer of yarns and fibers for spinning, knitting, and weaving. I occasionally offer custom spins as well. Based out of the north woods of the UP Michigan.

I am a spinner specializing in wool/wool blends and a knitter licensed for several patterns. I am available for custom/semi-custom spinning, and have recently changed my pricing structure based on yardage rather than by ounce. Message me for additional info/details :)

If an emotional support chicken were a colorway, this is what I imagine. Roost is my spring chicken inspired 10 color gradient and will drop in the shop Saturday the 18th.

Plied up my first skeins of Hearth, as a traditional 3 ply. 2 plies were targhee and one was rambouillet, 2 plies done on my dove and one on my starling. Chonky skein is indoor lighting, draped over my hand is in sunlight, so it's a bit of a chameleon with dark earthy mood.

4 braids deep in this sweater spin, my starling joined in. Using the flat pack bobbin on the dove for rambouillet so I can tell it apart, I'm honestly shocked at how fast this one is going. So portable and easy to pick up and spin for a few minutes here and there. I do think the rambouillet is a touch brighter, but as one strand of a three ply it should be really interesting.

The snow haze has been giving us some breaks finally and I've been privileged enough to see some amazing sunrises on the snow covered bluffs the past few weeks. At some point the colors just ended up falling into my carder and developed into this. Gentle, colors, a bit lower texture, but soft and bouncy thanks to the Cormo content. I'll have some of these in the shop on Saturday, with 10% of proceeds heading to the ACLU. I'll also have some new braid colorways landing so definitely pop in and take a look!

I've had a goal to start replacing my worn out knits and garments that just don't fit anymore, and this Lumme sweater just needed to be made. It flew off the needles, from concept to yarn dye to finished sweater entirely was barely over two weeks. I see another in my future for next winter, it is incredibly cozy and a beautiful palette to play with.

Breaking in the dove with some hearth on targhee, it's a very cozy deep winter vibe. Absolutely in love with this little wheel, it's so lightweight and SILENT. Would change literally nothing, it's perfect. Planning for later this year.

I pulled 5 sets of the Christkindlmarkt bundles from my show stock I'm starting to build. 10 percent of sales will go to a Minneapolis daycare for food for the kids there. They should be live on the shop already, but when they are gone they are gone! (Note these are not packed advent style and are reduced in price to account for that).

To those of you who grabbed braids from the shop this weekend, thank you for enabling me to make a small donation ❤️. More nest sets will come soon and I haven't figured out yet whether to continue syphoning a portion to the ACLU, or if a smaller organization would have more impact. If you have any feedback I'd love to hear it, so my little shop can keep doing its best to help.

Messing with some new to me techniques, including layered dyes (like a glaze would be on a dip dye) for LWI kettle dyed braids. It's making every braid really unique and more depth in color, even if the technique creates something very different than it would in prespun yarn.

I also learned shaniko is super fun to dye. (Shown on shaniko wool and US targhee)
