Empire of the Dawn

Jay Kristoff is fav author for me and I just picked up the third book in the Empire of the Vampire series. These are seriously chonky books that take me forever to read, but I find them so engrossing.

Q: do you like really big books (like over 500/600 pages)? What are some of your favorite big books?

The featured candle is an homage to Astrid from the EOTV series, and yes, she’s a f-ing queen!

New-to-me author - Jeneva Rose

I’ve seen this author around on bookstagram for a while but just hasn’t gotten around to picking up one of her books. I finally grabbed one and I’m wondering, what took me so long!

Dating after the end of the World - is a funny, quickly romance with zombies and preppers and some great characters. The story was fast moving, with great dialogue and lots of action. If you haven’t checked this book out, I highly recommend it!

Q: have you read this author? Do you have other book recs from her?

The candle Featured is French press because coffee is essential even at the end of the world!

When you settle in with a good book, what do you do to get comfortable and in the mood to read?

Cozy chair, blanket, warm beverage? I love to light a candle with a scent that pairs with my book.

A winter take with a crisp pine and snow scent.
A cozy mystery with coffee and cream scent.
A fantasy with Jasmine and amber.

In a Second by Kate Canterbary

Kate Canterbary is on my autobuy list because her stories and characters are so developed and real and engaging. There is always a good bit of drama, great dialogue and of course, an HEA. This book is the third in a series of connected stand alones and another favorite.

Q: if you read series, do you prefer connected stand alones, or multi-book stories on the same characters?

Ragpicker King by Cassandra Clare

This is the second book in the Sword Catcher series and I found that I liked the second book even better than the first. You got a lot more character development and lots of action! Lin is one of my fav characters because I love smart independent women who are also not afraid to be vulnerable.

Q: if you like series, is there a second book that you liked better than the first?

A: I would definitely put a Court of Mist and Fury in this category!

The Fall Risk

This book was a quick read with two fun side characters and a cute take on the Snowed in vibe where they are trapped together when their apartment stairs are destroyed. I love books like this which are great after a long emotional read or heavy fantasy.

I’m a huge Jennifer Lynn Barnes fan.

Partly because I am also a Jennifer Lynn 😊 but mainly because I love her characters and the smart mysteries she writes. I finished the Glorious Rivals last month and I could read a million books with the Hawthorne boys crew.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and are getting ready for the new year!

Q: what was your favorite gift (that you gave or received) this holiday?

A: my hubby loves our wood burning fire place and I got him a cast iron kindling splitter. He loved it!

Fri-yay!

Happy Friday all! Yesterday was my birthday and I had a lovely relaxing day of reading and hanging with family. I remember when I was younger I always wanted to pack my special day full of activities, but now it’s like a goal to do as little as I can!

Q: whatcha reading?

Right now I’m reading The Spite Date by Pippa Grant. I just love her books - true rom-com fun and just the right amount of spice.
