Hanna Krainik, Artist & Cinematographer I am an artist and cinematographer from Ukraine establishing new life in Iowa. I am an artist and cinematographer from Ukraine.

My husband, our son and I were forced to flee our home in Feb. 2022 as a result of war. We are currently taking refuge in Iowa through Uniting for Ukraine. As we establish new life in Iowa, my wish is to celebrate our rich culture and raise awareness around the tragedies facing our beloved country through
art and film.

"Laughter of the Russian Patriarch" 30X40
By Hanna Krainik
These are the consequences of a rocket attack on an
Orthodox monastery in Odesa. This monastery is still under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church, although Ukraine has its own Orthodox Autocephalous Church.
Patriarch Kirill blesses the Russian army to go to war in Ukraine. In his words, he says "Whoever dies in the war against Ukraine will go straight to Paradise." Most of the churches destroyed by Russian shelling are churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. For ten years, I worked in this monastery as a historical icon painter.

On September 1, Ukrainian children returned to school. Some are remotely, because it is very dangerous in their city, some are in a bomb shelter or in the subway, but most start the year in the school itself. Because there is no other choice, because a country without intelligent educated people is doomed to disappear.
I wish everyone an easy and informative school year! And to all Ukrainian children, Victory and safety!
