The history of acrylic paint

It started as industrial chemistry, not art. German chemist Otto Röhm developed the first acrylic resin in 1934 — the same tech behind Plexiglas. In the late 1940s, New York suppliers Leonard Bocour and Sam Golden turned that resin into Magna, a solvent-based paint used by artists like Jackson Po***ck and Roy Lichtenstein. The real game-changer came in 1955, when chemist Henry Levison created the first water-based acrylic and launched it as Liquitex — the fast-drying, water-cleanup paint we know today. By the 1960s, Pop artists like Andy Warhol had made it a staple, prizing it for its speed and bold, flat color.

🕯️ Folklore Wednesday 🕯️

Ever wonder why breaking a mirror is "7 years bad luck"? 🪞
Turns out humans have been terrified of their own reflections for a very long time. Ancient cultures believed mirrors held a piece of your soul — so shattering one didn't just mean bad luck, it meant your soul was out there. Loose. Unsupervised. Possibly causing problems.
The "7 years" part came later, courtesy of the Romans, who believed life renewed itself in 7-year cycles — so a broken mirror meant your soul needed that long to fully heal and reset. 😳
Moral of the story: handle your reflective surfaces with respect. And maybe don't make any big decisions until your soul gets its act together.
