Familiar Faces: Malizzi Cakes & Pastries

You've probably seen the line lately — Malizzi Cakes & Pastries just moved into a new location, and if you've ever tasted their stuff, you know it's about time.

I've known Liz since high school. Fast forward a few years, and she and her co-owner Darlene were the ones who made our wedding cake and cupcakes — the real kind of "I trust you with the most important dessert table of my life" trust. A naked two-tier cake with a sage green drip, fresh flowers, and a custom topper with our dogs on it. They nailed every detail.

These days Malizzi's is doing everything from jaw-dropping custom cakes (yes, THE Peacock Cake with 27 million-plus views is theirs) to the everyday stuff — cupcakes, cannolis, the treats you grab on a Friday because you deserve it. Full range, zero drop in quality, which is exactly why they needed the extra space.

No shareholders. No corporate headquarters. No CEO who's never touched a cake. Just someone I sat next to in class who's out here building something real — and finally getting the space (and recognition) she's earned.

Look who we caught in his natural habitat — David Duncan, who apparently doubles as a human search engine, rocking his custom "Call Dave, He Knows a Guy" tumbler like the legend he is.

This man sold my dad's house (literally in hours), introduced us to our dentist AND our car dealer, and somehow also has landscaping and cleaning recs on standby. Is there anything Dave doesn't know a guy for? We're starting to think he might BE the guy for everything.

🕯️ Folklore Wednesday 🕯️

Ever wonder why black cats got such a bad reputation? 🖤🐈‍⬛
Blame the Middle Ages. Black cats got tangled up with superstition and witch trials, and people convinced themselves the cats were secretly witches in disguise — or at least their spies. One crossed your path? Apparently that meant misfortune was headed your way, courtesy of whoever the cat was "working for."
Here's the twist though: not everyone agreed. Sailors historically kept black cats onboard for good luck, and in parts of the UK and Japan, a black cat crossing your path is actually considered a sign of good fortune, not bad.
So really, it depends who you ask — and possibly which cat.
Moral of the story: if a black cat chooses you, that's an honor, not a warning. 😌

⏳ TIME TRAVEL TUESDAY ⏳

On this day in 1985, a joint French-American expedition found the wreck of the Titanic, sitting quietly at the bottom of the North Atlantic for 73 years like it was just waiting to be dramatic on camera decades later.
She sank in 1912. She wasn't found until 1985. That's a LOT of time to spend as a mystery — and honestly? Iconic behavior. Some of us are still working on our "mysterious and hard to find" era and she was doing it two miles underwater.
