Sarah Sunshine Pottery is all handmade in Black Mountain, North Carolina, by Sarah Vekasi. Located in the heart of downtown, Sarah Sunshine Pottery has a shop at 105 Cherry Street, Black Mountain, and a studio seven blocks away where it is all made. Her love of wild and natural places is

reflected in the simple elegance of this functional pottery. Sarah grew up first in Glacier National Park, and then Acadia National Park. She has lived in the temperate rainforest, the high desert, on the ocean, in a Zen Monastery in Japan, in an Old Growth tree, and in India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. It is her love of mountains and rural places that helped Sarah settle in Black Mountain,NC in the heart of Appalachia, in 2010. Working with clay is a daily meditation. It brings me (Sarah) back to the direct moment, the specific placement of now, as making pottery requires focus and presence. Centering clay helps keep me centered, and producing pottery helps sustain all of my work.

Saturday, June 6th is Art Show day in Black Mountain! Come check out the annual juried art show organized by the Old Depot Association - “Art by the Tracks” along Sutton Ave. And make a trip up Cherry Street to my store to meet Dolly Doodle, see me, and buy fantastic pottery. ❤️❤️❤️

Cherry Street will be open via Broadway, or park north of town in any of the town or church lots. ❤️❤️❤️

It’s June 1st, meaning the beginning of Pride Month. It is important to me to have a store and a small business where everyone belongs. I try every day to do what is needed to help our community make room for everyone.
When I was a kid it was taboo to come out as gay, le***an, bi, and/or transgender, and yet many of my classmates and friends and neighbors were open about their truth despite the many challenges. I was and continuing be impressed by their courage and authenticity. Thank you all.
Now there are still so many obstacles, in some ways more, just decidedly different. And it continues to be important to me to always, always make more room for everyone to be able to thrive.
We celebrate pride month to remember to keep doing this work of learning about one another, accepting and being curious and open and loving to one another, and also, of course, to celebrate being alive.
