This is my mother's house - The Garret Antiques. My parents, Nancy & Dennis Garrett, first opened The Garret Antique Shop in May of 1964.....I was ten years old. The first shop was located at 1006 North Walnut in Bloomington. Then around 1966, they expanded and opened a second shop in Ellettsville at 600 West Main Street on the corner of Main and South Sale Street - that building has been renovated into apartments and is still standing. They closed the Ellettsville shop around 1972, but still had the one in Bloomington on North Walnut. Mom and Dad purchased the Kirkwood house in 1974 and moved their antique shop into it in 1976. My mother still lives there. The house is the only limestone house with two turrets built in 1895, that is still standing in Bloomington.
