You guys are too good! This is indeed an antique dough bowl. It's huge and has a beautiful stand with it.

These were used for preparing dough to make mostly bread and biscuits with. One this size was probably used by a baker, boarding house or perhaps even a large farmhouse. The stand brought the bowl to waist height so that the person making the dough wouldn't have to strain their back as much. I bet they had sore hands though! These were usually never washed with soap or water. They would be scraped clean as it was believed the leftovers would season the wood and make for tastier dough in the future!

We now have a permanent spot at Black Bear Antiques, and recently were approved for the Twin Cities Market in McCaysville/Copperhill, which runs every Saturday from 9-3 from now until Oct 31st. I've got so much new stuff, as well as all the classics (maps, crosses, etc.) Check us out at either of these places!
