Sidenote: thank you for reaching out as Lebanon remains in the news for horrific reasons. We are so sad. As we are in touch with our people there and we wanted you know that your support has ignited beautiful healing that is continuing to ripple out into neighbors and communities. War is horrible and we pray every day for deescalation and restraint. And we also find hope in the helpers that are still on the ground. In the words of - “We are sad, but we are not afraid.”

As one of the first pieces we designed and learned to make, this one holds a special place in my heart and has stood the test of time. It’s a neutral, versatile piece that can be used seasonally (nativity in the winter, plants in spring/summer, fall bounty in autumn) or year round.

Exactly three years ago, you all cheered as we launched Art of Hoping, believing that we could provide opportunities for communities of Syrian refugees. And we have. Through your purchases and donations, you have provided regular salaries and holistic care for dozens of women and their families—nurturing hearts, souls, and bodies.

I celebrate those years with you and also am sad to report that we are closing the doors here at Art of Hoping.

Transitions are always hard. This decision came through much conversation, prayer, and counsel—and a few tears. I grieve the ending of this project, and I also rejoice at the beginning of new things. One of those new things is our newest staff member now four-months old. 😏 His little years are precious and fleeting and I’m grateful to be able to stay home to experience them.

I also joyfully anticipate what will come from all the transformation in my own life and those we worked alongside in Lebanon through Art of Hoping. I echo the words of our dear Lebanese manager, Leyah:, “Thank you for teaching me how to dream again.”.

On International Women's Day, we announced that we have opened the doors of our market to other refugee artists! Here's the back story and how you can join us on this mission.

As I continue to hear stories from displaced people across the globe, I'm struck with how many stories have the same theme—artist skills (fashion, woodworking, hand embroidery, etc) are hard to translate into new cultures. This leaves the artist without financial resources, struggling to find meaningful connection to their host country, and feeling the emotional toll of life without purposeful work.

I started wondering how to help these skilled artisans connect to the US market. And you all came to mind. The Art of Hoping store has always been more than Ecommerce , it's a community of people that have said, "We want to spend our money in ways that heals people one at a time of the wounds of war and violence."

Here in Boise, I've been sitting with people who have traveled far and given much, and I've listened as they dream and can't wait to connect them with you all. And so, along with continuing our healing work in Lebanon, we are in the beginning stages of opening our doors incredible people from around the globe with stories that will inspire you and skills that will beautify your homes and closets.
