START BRUSHING!!- Brushing is the best way to get the downy spinnable undercoat. Cut ends on a f

iber show in finished work, and don't 'adhere' as well as naturally-shed/brushed fur. AMOUNT OF FUR NEEDED- This will vary greatly depending on yarn type and desired outcome/item, breed, 'all-dog' or blended with other fibers, etc.
***What I Know- For example- Approximately 2 oz. of Husky Mix fur, created about 120 yards of 2-ply worsted-weight yarn, which is generally enough yardage for a knitted beanie. BREEDS: Breeds native to the colder environs make the best yarns, as their undercoats are generally long, downy, and the fibers have 'great grip'. HUSKY, WOLF, SHEPARDS, ST. BERNARD, NEWFOUNDLAND, SAMOYED, CHOWCHOW-and More!
**But Really, fur from most shedding breeds can be worked with.
-Refer to photos of yarn from Andy, the Corgi-mix whose fiber staple length was 1''-1.5'', and pretty slick, which are not ideal qualities in spinning fiber, BUT this just means possibly having to spin a thicker yarn. COST- To Be Discussed

After 8 months- it's finally done.
It all started with the owner of Nari-, the 9 year-old Akita, coming to my house with a 5 lb bag of brushed fur, which she collected over 7 years.
This fur is very short and would not make a very good yarn by itself... so I blended 60% Akita with 40% Alpaca and mixed wools.

The resulting 2 ply yarn is both strong and soft.....and the finished scarf will become softer and fluffier with wear. Canine and feline Yarns are very much alive....the appearance, texture, and feel continue to evolve long after the spinning and knitting are done.
(My personal Husky scarf, after 2 years, looks more like a pelt than crocheted yarn)

Using up some Idaho-raised Alpaca odds n' ends for this 3-ply heavy worsted yarn.Would love to do this type of tri-color...

*START BRUSHING!*

-Send me a minimum of 1 OZ of your Dog or Cat's fur, and for $50, I will spin a 2-ply yarn and crochet a small piece, like in the photo, 3-4'', circle or square. You can then 'attach the patch' to whatever you wish- a pillow, blanket, etc. (Yarn in photo is 3-ply. Add $25 for 3-ply).
