So what's the difference between Classical Feng Shui and Western Feng Shui?

🧭 1. Classical (Compass or Traditional) Feng Shui
Used by practitioners like FENG SHUI CREATIONS, align the Bagua, sometimes called Pa-Gua too, with the actual magnetic or “True” directions of the environment.

The Bagua’s eight trigrams correspond to specific compass orientations:

North = Career/Path in Life

South = Fame/Reputation

East = Family/Health

West = Creativity/Children

NE = Knowledge

NW = Helpful People/Travel

SE = Wealth/Abundance

SW = Relationships/Love

This mapping comes from the Yi Jing (I Ching) and ancient cosmology linking Heaven–Earth–Man energies.

It recognizes that chi flows differently in different latitudes, climates, and orientations — so “true north” matters.

🏠 2. Western or BTB (Black Sect Ta***ic Buddhist) Feng Shui
Developed in the 1980s by Professor Lin Yun in the U.S.

It simplified the system for Western students by anchoring the Bagua to the entrance (mouth of chi) — the front door — rather than the compass.

So, “mouth of chi” = front edge of the Bagua, and the zones radiate inward:

Entry (front) = Career

Far back = Fame

Back right = Love, etc.

It’s based on intentional and symbolic alignment rather than physical orientation — designed for apartment living and Western architectural patterns.

⚖️ 3. Why They Differ
Different philosophies of energy mapping:

Classical = the environment directs chi (objective orientation).

BTB = the person’s intention directs chi (subjective orientation).

Different purposes:

Classical is diagnostic — it measures and balances real environmental energies (mountain, water, magnetic fields).

BTB is prescriptive — it focuses on psychological or spiritual harmony.

Different traditions:

Classical lineage comes from thousands of years of Chinese geomancy.

BTB is a modern hybrid combining Buddhism, Taoism, and Western psychology.
