DID YOU KNOW?
Seams can prevent your design from getting the pressure it needs.
We’re starting a “Did You Know?” series here at Creative Design & Supply, sharing practical tips daily and sometimes more than once a day to help you create with confidence and get better results.
Today’s tip: Proper heat press pressure matters.
Time, temperature, and pressure work together to help your design bond properly. Collars, hems, pockets, zippers, and thick seams can hold the press slightly above your design. Even when the press feels tightly closed, the design may not be receiving enough even pressure.
Whenever possible, move bulky seams outside the pressing area. If needed, place a suitable heat press pad or thin piece of clean, plain, uncoated cardboard inside the garment or product, directly beneath the design.
This raises the design area above nearby seams so pressure reaches it more evenly. The insert should support the entire design without extending beneath the bulky seams. Any other material used should be heat-safe and provide firm, even support.
Recheck your pressure after adding an insert, and follow your transfer’s application instructions. More heat or extra pressing time will not correct pressure blocked by seams.
