SAVE THIS: 7 Things to Check Before You Buy a Closet System
Thinking about finally getting your closet organized? Before you order a system or start buying bins, baskets, and organizers, check these first! 👇
☐ Measure the space. Don’t just measure the width. Check height, depth, doors, trim, baseboards, and anything that could interfere with installation.
☐ Take inventory of what you actually own- Hanging clothes, shoes, folded clothes, handbags, accessories… your closet should be designed around YOUR wardrobe and YOUR everyday routine.
☐ Decide what you want within easy reach. The things you use every day shouldn't be buried on a high shelf or shoved in the back.
☐ Think about your future needs. Are you expecting your wardrobe to change? Planning to share the closet? Make sure there's room to grow. (Because face it, we're gonna buy the shoes!!😜)
☐ Don't forget the awkward spaces- Corners, small walls, high ceilings, and unused vertical space can often become some of the most valuable storage.
☐ Plan for function BEFORE aesthetics. (Again, don't buy the fun baskets first) Pretty is great. Pretty AND functional is the goal.
☐ Make sure you're maximizing the space you already have. Sometimes the problem isn't that you need a bigger closet… it's that your current closet isn't working efficiently.
✨ Bonus tip: Before you buy anything, take a photo of your closet as it is right now. Then ask yourself: “What frustrates me most about this space?” Start your design there.
