Sometimes, a piece stays with you.

While visiting a pop-up in Paris, Cory was drawn to Alexander Lamont’s Dais Spot Chair and Estribor Drinks Cabinet. Beyond seeing the finished pieces, he watched craftspeople in the showroom demonstrate how they were made, revealing the material knowledge and handwork behind each object.

The impression lasted well beyond the trip. When the right project opportunity arose, Cory brought the Lamont pieces forward as a reference he had kept in mind.

This is often how we work at Planeta. We are continually looking, collecting, and holding onto objects, materials, makers, and ideas. Not always for an immediate application, but for the moment when they belong. Over time, that becomes a kind of material bank: A library of artifacts we have encountered, remembered, and can draw from when the right project calls for them.

Alexander Lamont speaks about creating pieces with their own energy, beauty, and spirit. We are drawn to that same sense of intention, and to the value of discovering something well before we know exactly where it will find its place.

What began as a hand sketch with a television positioned above a fireplace as the focus point became something much more meaningful: An installation space for beautiful art. Flanked by functional display shelving and discreet concealed storage, the architecture quietly supported the centerpiece. With guidance from Planeta Design Group’s Art Advisory, the client’s John Chamberlain became the focal point.

Most successful interiors evolve as a project progresses. Design is rarely a straight line. Ideas evolve. Discoveries are made. Perspectives shift. We value working collaboratively with clients to create a space that was perhaps never considered or thought possible at first, but in the end feels personal, meaningful, and distinctly theirs.

When tapped to renovate an 1883 Peabody & Stearns Shingle Style residence nestled in Brookline, the Planeta team worked with the homeowners and Woodmeister Master Builders to renovate the home in a way that honored its history and that of the unique urban-suburban locale, while modernizing for today’s needs.

“We’re taking historical elements and using them in a way that’s unique,” Patrick Planeta noted in coverage of the project in Boston Magazine.

From restoring antique paneling, adding elements inspired by the people and places of one of the oldest suburban enclaves in the country, and creating new and handcrafted materials, past and present were brought together for a beautiful result.

Extending the warmest of congratulations to the 2026 5 Under 40 Award winners! The honor holds special meaning for the Planeta Design Group team: Both principal Patrick Planeta and director Cory Gans are past winners.

Even more special, each of the winning rugs were produced, and will be available for auction Sept. 17 to support School of Leadership, Afghanistan at a ceremony celebrating the recipients.

We both have fond memories of the experience, from our inspiration for our designs, witnessing the process of them coming together, embracing the finished product, and being a part of something larger than ourselves. Well-deserved congratulations to all!
