Annisquam Creations

Annisquam Creations BIO: Surrounded by women all my life who were always making something, seemingly out of nothing, sparked the creative spirit.

Cozy knitwear, decorative arts, greeting cards, annual and perennial plants, vegetables, herbal remedies and gourmet preserves all based in Annisquam

Some items are available on: https://society6.com/annisquamcreations I majored in art in high school and went on to graduate from Rhode Island School of Design. Altho I no longer work in my field of study, each day and every project has been influen

ced by the education I received. My career path and life have twisted this way and that, each turn presenting an opportunity to learn something new. Now that I am settled in the wonderful village of Annisquam on a special property that use to be an herb farm I am able to let my imagination run creatively wild. Again I am surrounded by a group of women who are creative and giving of their talents. The garden is a place of refuge as well as production--the New England work ethic has kept most of the gardens filled with fruits and vegetables with a nod to the Norton sisters, members of the Folly Cove Designers, who grew herbs and many medicinal plants for their mail-order business. There are days when I feel their presence here in this special place. My small work room is piled high with supplies for future projects! -- dried plant materials, containers, papers, books, watercolors, fabrics and, of course, yarn. As a self-employed designer, I have the freedom to take on a wide range of projects. Another avenue that has opened to me is designing book covers, many for cookbooks but a growing number for authors sharing their thoughts in the new world of self-publishing. I fear I will run out of time before I run out of projects! At the Annisquam Arts & Crafts Show I will have knit items--each one-of-a-kind, original designs--the yarn textures and colors leading the creative process, other handcrafted items, and preserves and savory items from the garden—for example, Tomato Hot Sauce and Hot Mustard and a few other items. I look forward to meeting all who come by.

Tour the Annisquam Herb Farm June 29th “Buy It Now Auction” for up to 30 people on Bidding for Good, Annisquam Village Church.

Join us for a rare opportunity to explore the grounds of the Annisquam Herb Farm, tucked away on the outskirts of the village. Once part of the historic Norton Farm, which stretched all the way to Ipswich Bay, the property now spans three-quarters of an acre and retains its rich natural heritage.

Much of this enchanting landscape has been left in its natural state, allowing native and wild plants to thrive—many brought in by the animals that now call this land home. As you tour the grounds, you may catch a glimpse of foxes, coyotes, rabbits, gray and red squirrels, groundhogs, chipmunks, ducks, and a wide variety of birds.

Come experience the quiet magic of this land, learn about its history and ecology, and support the Annisquam Village Church in the process.

**How It All Began**

I stumbled upon the property by chance—no intention to buy, just curiosity. The listing read: *“Used to be an herb farm.”* When I pulled up at the end of Dennis Court, I spotted the wooden frame of a greenhouse below. A greenhouse! What a delightful and unexpected surprise.

The days that followed were a blur—calculating costs, making an offer, and, to my amazement, having it accepted. Once the purchase was finalized, the focus turned to planning. We set out to enlarge the main building, connecting it to the potting shed and greenhouse. We added a new kitchen, another bedroom and bath, and those long-missing closets—always with the goal of making the addition look as though it had always been there.

“No Work Gardening “
In the mid ‘60s I was given a copy of Ruth Stout’s book, “No Work Gardening “ and allowed to plant in a plot of land that had been an organic garden for years. That was the beginning of my interest in and love of organic gardening.

This article in the New Yorker was shared with me today. You might enjoy learning a bit about Ruth Stout and adopting her approach to gardening 🌱

Starting the day - Doodling while I finish my coffee✍️ Every project starts with an idea that, hopefully, will grow into a finished product. Putting Doodles to use started with Anne LaFollette’s course, Doodles to Dollars. Kicked started again with Bonnie Christine’s Pattern Week. Time to get back to doodling…

Patterns everywhere! After a bit of snow last night I had to get outside this morning. There was some rain before the snowfall so everything looks as it were frosted. The granite walls are a major influence on Cape Ann. The quarries were a source of employment for years. You can not go many feet before the quarried stones as seen as a foundation, a retaining wall, a building.

This image will be my One Thing a Day Tracker entry🖌️ , a suggestion from Bonnie Christine’s Patter Week course.
