Can a rental apartment still feel personal, colorful, and completely yours?

I’m starting this project series with the kitchen — and I’ll be sharing the other rooms with you gradually.

This kitchen started with an unexpected detail: an embroidered linen fabric with peacocks. 🦚

Its color palette is soft and pastel, so I used light aquamarine as the main accent — a color that continues in the large storage cabinet for kitchenware.

One of the challenges here was lighting. In a rental, options for changing the existing lighting are often limited, so I created several layers of local lighting instead:

— a swing-arm wall lamp above the dining table, since a traditional ceiling fixture wasn’t an option;

— a table lamp that can completely change the mood and create a relaxed, café-like atmosphere;

— additional surface-mounted lights above the cabinet, providing both functional lighting and another layer of ambient light.

And don’t be afraid of colorful chairs. They can make a space feel much more cheerful — especially when natural light is limited.

The window treatment will add another layer of texture: an asymmetric embroidered curtain paired with a light, semi-sheer linen Roman shade.

Renting a home doesn’t mean putting comfortable living on pause.

Absolutely, reversible pillows are one of my favorite things to create.

I love pairing fabrics so that each side tells a different story — through color, texture, or pattern.

It’s a simple way to refresh a room. Just flip the pillow, and the space instantly feels a little different.

A little design tip from me: don’t underestimate the power of decorative pillows. Sometimes one small detail is all it takes to transform a room.

Because home is where we are. And pillows? They are one of those small details that can make a space feel truly yours.

This update started with a practical question: how to change the feel of the bedroom without going over budget.

Reupholstering the headboard proved too expensive, so I suggested an alternative—focusing on the ottoman and adding custom pillows.
We chose Parfum d’Été for this part — palm leaves 🌿, sun-warmed tones, 🌞 deep blues — a quiet reference to summer, without making it too literal.
For the windows, I kept it simple: two solid fabrics in tones that echo the ottoman, connected
with a subtle trim detail 🪡 .

The black curtain rod continues the line of the barn doors — a small move, but it ties things together.
The room feels lighter now ✨

The layered window treatment in this room wasn’t accidental.
Solid linen roman shades help soften the strong southern light 🌞
The jacquard roman shades with a subtle zebra pattern — one of those choices simply because the fabric felt right. And the starting point, of course, was the pastoral “jungle” print of the main fabric.
The wall panels and bedspread were made to measure 🪡
Handcrafted elements run throughout the space: the curtains, coverlet, and wall panels - all were created to make the room feel truly comfortable.
