WE NEED SUPPORT & SIGNATURES!!

Local friends, we’re working to get the “Preserve Our Florida Heritage” specialty license plate approved to help fund the protection of historic homes, landmarks, and cultural sites across our state. With so much growth happening, pieces of Florida’s story are disappearing — and together we can help save them.

Brandon didn’t just appear, it was built from real roots, real families, and real history that shaped the community we all call home today.

Many people don’t realize that parts of what we now know as Brandon were once small historic settlements, including Limona, a thriving town here in the late 1800s. One of the living reminders of that past is the Moseley Homestead, and we’re proud to support our neighbors there in preserving that legacy.

Preserving Brandon (Florida) is a local nonprofit dedicated to keeping our area’s history alive for future generations. We believe that understanding where we came from helps us protect what makes this community special….not just buildings and land, but stories, heritage, and identity.

Our work also extends to our surrounding communities, including Bloomingdale and Valrico, because the history of this region is shared, connected, and worth honoring together.

If you love Brandon and want its story remembered, you’re already part of the mission. 💚

We’re excited to share a collaboration that’s close to our hearts 💛

The Moseley Homestead sits at the very heart of what is now Brandon, Florida, and its story is deeply intertwined with the broader history of this community. That’s why we’re especially pleased to have helped our friends with Preserving Brandon develop a new logo that reflects shared values—honoring the past while building community connections for the future.

Preserving Brandon’s work to identify, celebrate, and protect Brandon’s historic places aligns closely with our own preservation goals, and we’re proud to support their efforts as part of a growing network of local partners working together for heritage preservation in Hillsborough County.

We look forward to more opportunities to collaborate as we continue striving toward the same mission: protecting the history that shaped our community.

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! Just a little update before I ask a question about this object we uncovered in the backyard today 😳

The house has been a delight for sure! We’ve been living here now for several months and it’s just pure gratitude every day when I get to walk on those old floors and live in this old house. She’s a beauty! We are in the process of doing the landscaping here soon enough, but it’s not cheap. Irrigation, sod, and everything else is going to be a pretty penny so we’re going to have to do it in sections.

We have a little house in the back of the yard and we were ultimately going to turn that into a mother-in-law suite, but we’re using it right now for some other reasons and we will begin working on that eventually.

In the next month or so, we will begin additional construction on the south side of the house to build a carport, utility room, and Roy‘s office. That will be exciting!!

Now for the picture below, what the heck is it? Roy was doing a little digging to lay a mosaic stone walkway near the back door and uncovered this. Any idea of what this might be? I do believe he’s going to break into it tomorrow as we just uncovered it this evening…

📣 We need your voice and show of support!

Join us at the County Commission meeting - 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the County Center, 2nd Floor - as staff presents an important update on the Moseley Homestead, one of our county’s most cherished historic places and a National Register of Historic Places site. (Staff Report found here: https://eagenda.hcfl.gov/portal/PTL29560/search?D=12/17/2025&T=Regular%20BOCC%20Meeting&Y=Backup&o=G-1.pdf)

This is a pivotal moment to show the Commission that the community values this irreplaceable historic site.

So much has been accomplished recently:
🌐 A new, county-supported interactive website (2025) funded through a Hillsborough County Preservation Grant—featuring virtual tours, a “Tell Your Story” community submission feature, public input tools, and engaging historical interpretation.
🌿 Completion of short- and long-term preservation plans, architectural surveys, and professional guidance documents and inventories.
🏛️ A full archaeological and historical study completed in 2024.
✨ A new marketing and mission plan with the revitalized Timberly Trust Board, the steward of the Homestead.
🎉 Launch of the annual Brandon’s Legacy Labor Day Picnic fundraiser at the Winthrop Barn—an incredible community event supported by local donors and partners.
🏆 A newly awarded $249,000 Special Category Grant from the State of Florida for preservation (requiring a County match).
🤝 A transformative new partnership with Portillo’s of Brandon—including Portillo’s Pathway to the Past, improved parking, a dedicated access gate, and VIP meeting space for visitor orientation.
🎬 The Homestead’s selection as a Lifetime movie filming location, bringing visibility, tourism potential, and pride to our community.

The Moseley Homestead is not only a historical treasure but a vibrant and growing hub for education, preservation, and public engagement.

Now, we need the community to come together.

Your presence this Wednesday will help demonstrate to Commissioners that the Homestead has broad public support and that its preservation and public programming truly matter to Hillsborough County.

➡️ Please join us and help ensure that this historical treasure continues to thrive for future generations.

Across every historic neighborhood in America, the same truth quietly echoes through the cracks of peeling paint and the rattling of century-old sashes: our windows are calling out for help. And when the windows go, the rest of the house soon follows. But here’s the good news—if we save the wind...

Roy and I wanted to THANK everyone who took the time to come see the house last weekend…We also want to THANK everyone who has been on this journey with us since we bought this house less than 2 years ago. You have given us Hope, Encouragement, Strength, and Endurance. We are so grateful to be at the finish line to begin the process over the next few weeks to move into the home and hang our hats finally….We still have quite a bit to do in order to polish it all up, but it’s now livable and we are looking forward to calling it home. I don’t plan to shut the page down entirely, however it is our home now and this page has accomplished its mission of allowing everyone to watch this historical piece of Brandon come back to life…Big hugs to you all!!!

Brandon sure isn’t the same in 2025! Our beloved home now has 24/7 surveillance and is very overprotected 😂🙏🏻
