There’s just something about antiquing that’s therapeutic! Whenever I have a bad or stressful day, I get into my car, drive with the windows down, and enter my nearest antique mall or thrift shop. I will scour the aisles and feel my stress melt away. It’s like the walls themselves have healing properties. Now, I am no psychologist, but I believe we feel this way because antique stores feel like home. In one place, we’re transported back to a time of beautiful painted art, used teapots, tearing hymns, and original photographs. We are back home, and yet in the past. And perhaps, that’s where we find the thing that most matters: the stories that lead and keep us.

Believe it or not, fall is here 🍂
Did you know that there is scientific reasons why people love fall? Sociologists attribute the love of fall to new beginnings. As children, we associate fall to the return of school and all the excitement that comes with it: seeing friends again, cool bus rides, supply shopping. We’re ingrained to love fall because we all love a fresh start. Secondly, psychologists believe that fall elicits memories of “warmth.” When fall comes, we think of sweaters, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, boots, and candles. And who doesn’t love a good cozy fall day? So, if you find yourself loving fall and you’re not sure why, be relieved to know it’s scientifically normal. And if you find yourself wanting fall to come a bit sooner, head on over to booth 1991 for your dose of cozy items. Remember: science told you to shop!

Something that can be found at nearly any thrift store for free are church hymnals, but have we ever thought about the sacredness of these books? For generations, people held these hymnals in their hands. They traced the words, followed the notes, and sang to the Lord these prayers. Hymnals can remind us of grandmothers who have since passed on, childhood churches, and wooden pews that were uncomfortable but homely. Therefore, hymnals have been one of our favorite things to transform. Haley has made these beautiful flowers from the pages of hymns. Now, instead of sitting in dusty back rooms or stored away in boxes, these mementos of a time before digital words-on-a-screen can be sitting in your house, reminding you of special people and special times.

Welcome! We are the family behind Redeemed Relics, a vintage market dedicated to making the past present again. From left to right, we are Jordyn (oldest sister), Kara (mom), Haley (middle sister), and Madison (youngest sister). From a young age, all of us have been artists of some kind. We are thespians, singers, painters, crafters, embroiderers, innovators, and thrifters. Needless to say, we see the beauty in this world and long to make it known.
As a family, we have always bonded over our love of good deals and good stories. Perhaps that’s why one of our favorite pastimes have always been visiting our local antique market or thrift store, and why we created our own. When shopping, we don’t just look for markdowns; we look for the remnants of those who came before. Our houses are full of old pictures or a person’s once-used Bible and journal. We can’t justify throwing away a part of someone’s story, and if you’re here, you probably can’t either.

This Facebook will be dedicated to showing the creations in our market, the process, and—when we are able—the history of our items. Through our store, we hope to share pieces of the past and remind others that legacies matter. We hope you love our store and the vision behind Redeemed Relics.
