There is this delightful rose bush blooming right outside my shop door. On days like today, with the sun shining, not only is it a fabulous visual greeting but it makes everything smell nice too šŸ™‚

A lot of firsts in the shop this year, of course. Here’s the first headliner to come through. VW GTI. Just a stocker but my neighbor Josh had the day off and got us some action shots!! He also came in clutch with the install stretch. Thanks Josh! You da man!

Kicking things out in the new shop! Pretty straight ahead cushion job this time. This one made special by the fact that my customer’s father built this chair and to his own specs. Basically he was tall and if you’re not this wouldn’t be the chair for you. The construction was noticeably beautiful from the start. In furniture upholstery you must be no less than perfect on a few key techniques. Cushions are the main show usually. My dad could sew a perfect, straight lined, crisp cornered, flat topped yet plump cushion that was so aesthetically pleasing I could stare at it for hours like a god damn Monet in an art gallery! I myself have been professionally sewing since my late teens and it wasn’t until my late thirties that I finally churned one out and thought heck, that’s starting to look like one of Dad’s! Countless curse words and frustrated moments accompanied that journey but once I arrived I was very proud and it became one of my favorite facets of the trade. Sometimes I watch my own hands while working and ask them where and when they learned how to do that.

First job completed in the new shop! It’s been a trying year since my dad passed in May. At first I was led to believe I could keep things rolling the way they’ve been for many years in a business sense, but ultimately possession of Dad’s house was solely left to my mother. It’s fair to say we haven’t seen eye to eye for many years and at the risk of sounding too personal I’ll just say she made what I consider to be the heartless decision to evict me. I was given 60 days to move 25 years of my rooted life out of my family home and the shop where I learned and accomplished many projects alongside my dad; going back to even before I moved out on my own. Well, I’ve moved out again and it has turned out to be quite the blessing in the end. I bought a sweet 1981 Ford Econoline with a four on the floor and found this wonderful ā€œhobbit holeā€ of a shop tucked in a neat part of town complete with a loft! I will also be able to move the clock shop out of my kitchenšŸ˜‚ I’d like to also take a minute to say this wouldn’t have ever been possible without the true friends that have become my family, especially my bestie Bill Mousseau. I’ll never forget this Bill and I couldn’t have done it without you! Doors dont close without windows opening they say and to be honest, now that the hard part is over, I am truly happy and excited for the future. Onward and upward friends! Thanks as always for your continued support and please stay tuned for this new adventure!

Some huge(yet relatively small) things happening for Marshall’s Upholstery and Kitsap Antique Clock Repair!! A new shop in an old Bremerton building that couldn’t be more fitting. Honestly, this place was someone’s old hobbit hole and the fit couldn’t be more perfect. It’s been a perfect end to a crazy year and I look forward to sharing this new chapter with any and all! Thanks again for your continued support friends!!

I'm not one to be political online and I certainly don't intend to argue with anyone but here's proof that tariffs are creeping into my little world. There is very little meat left on the bone for markups when it comes to already expensive leather goods and I will have no choice but to pass these costs onto my customers. Please tell me where I can buy fine Italian leather with centuries of tradition here in the states at a reasonable price.

I hit the ground running this July. Lots of projects and summer deadlines. Finished up this 1950's era platform rocker the other day. These old pillow-topped platform pendulums are my favorite to upholster and admire. They scream traditional vintage. This one was no exception. I rebuilt the spring unit in the seat and stuffed the back with 8 layers of traditional cotton. My customer chose a wonderful to***co naugahyde and it paired perfectly with the French natural decorative nails. It's so comfortable I wanted to keep it! It will be a gift for her brother so I hope it continues to be a "chair"ished family heirloom for years to come. Thanks for your continued support.

Just an update on my last post. I did accomplish the pool case! Genuine leather with mohair liner and all antiqued brass hardware. Leather work is not my specialty but it's only a stone's throw from upholstery with a few of the right tools. I'm pretty proud of this one, particularly the curved zipper. I thought this would be a fun project but it was also born out of necessity. I play a considerable amount of pool and my favorite cue happens to be 60". That's a bit long and the darn thing wouldn't fit any other case I had. Thanks for looking!
