Kids' rooms don't need to be perfect. They need to be theirs.

It's tempting to design a kid's room the way you'd design any other room (cohesive, restrained, a palette that behaves). But a kid's room gets to break those rules a little. It should hold what they're into right now, even if that changes completely in a year.

Trust me, I know how hard it is to let it be. Watching all the "cute" posters come home from the book fair and find their way onto the wall is a real exercise in restraint. 😂

This won't last forever. The interests will shift, the furniture will get outgrown, the walls will probably get repainted more than once. That's fine. This too shall pass , let it be exactly what it is while it's true.

A room a kid actually loves will always beat a room that photographs well.

This used to be a long hallway with a few tight, underused closets, the kind of space that technically existed but nobody actually loved.

Now it's an entire primary suite wing.

The entry door is hidden, so the suite feels separate from the rest of the house the moment you step in. The washer and dryer are tucked away too, laundry happens right where you need it, without it ever looking like a laundry room. Closet space that actually fits a real wardrobe instead of a compromise. And a primary bathroom big enough that "insanely large" is honestly the accurate description, not an exaggeration.

None of this happened by carving out more square footage. It happened by rethinking what the whole wing was for.

Four sample palettes from four current projects...and they could not be more different. Different woods, different metals, totally different color stories and moods. Entirely different styles.

Feeling grateful that I dont have to stick to that one "signature look".

Every project starts from scratch with, who actually lives there, how they want to feel in their space, and what makes sense for them. Not what makes sense for me. It's what keeps me excited for the next!

When in doubt...go bigger.
Oversized art and mirrors are almost always the right answer.

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn't adding more, it's uncovering what was always possible.

A little vision, a lot of planning, and countless thoughtful decisions turned this space into something that feels lighter, warmer, and made for the people who call it home.

Building a home is exciting.
Pinterest boards are flying, everyone is dreaming about kitchens and fireplaces and soaking tubs overlooking the mountains...
And then the decisions start.

Hundreds of them.

Studio Notes dives into the investment behind interior design, what you're actually paying for, and why the right design partner should bring clarity and confidence to the process.

A beautiful space is the result of hundreds of decisions that most people never see. Every cabinet dimension, appliance location, switch and outlet location, trim detail, and alignment has to be thought through long before construction begins.

Watching an idea move from construction documents to a finished space never gets old!

I dragged my husband and daughter all over D.C. on what can only be described as an architectural scavenger hunt.

We wandered through museums, art galleries, historic neighborhoods, and enough iconic buildings to make my designer heart very happy.

The National Building Museum was, without question, my favorite. If you've never been, put it on your list. It's one of those places that reminds you that buildings are more than structures, they shape how we experience the world.

Now I'm back in the mountains with a camera roll full of details and a family that's probably ready for a vacation that doesn't involve me stopping every five minutes to photograph a doorway.😬
