Happy Thursday friends!!
We spent all day restocking and rearranging areas at Antique To***co Barn yesterday.

Can we just have a moment for the pig sign??
It’s 7ft long and 47” H, she’s a big porker!! I love the old hand painted menu, but my favorite is the sides, that category is called GO ALONGERS.

We took in the big handmade pine cabinet, where we have all our outdoorsy items. Our dogs and duck items have been selling really good and we found some really nice black and yellow labs with ducks.

Lots of beautiful vintage scarves that remind me a lot of when that was Dolly’s style to wear around her hair. Some great Crate & Barrell chairs and lots of smalls and artwork.

Come by and check us!

We’re taking another big load to the Antique To***co Barn today. We’ve been so busy I forgot to post last weeks load. Several thing are already sold including the Armed Forces sign, the Telegraph sign, the Kilim rug, one of the metal display cabinets, the round table, all the chairs and lots of smalls. I’m excited for this load, but I have no idea how we’re going to fit it all, but we’ll figure out when we get there.

Welcome back SEPTEMBER!!!
“I can see the light of a clear blue morning, I can see the light of a brand new day. Everything’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be ok.”

I woke up this morning filled with lightness in my heart and ready for whatever this month brings. Then a friend sent me this picture of the latest Mtn Express annual BEST OF WNC addition, and just like the past 16 years the Antique To***co Barn is number 1. That’s an incredible accomplishment! And our booth was featured in the ad. That’s very humbling for us and after the month of hard work we’ve just endured it feels like a sign that, just like Dolly sang, we’re gonna be ok.

I’ve always loved Dolly, and admire many of her great qualities including all her musical accomplishments, proudly speaking out on her faith, her business sense, integrity and honesty and how she treated people based on the interviews I’ve read. We went through a stressful and rough time last year personally with my dad’s death and our son’s accident, and I had stepped away from helping where we had a booth. We decided to take off to get away for the weekend and went to Dolly’s DreamMore Resort. I bought this ornament there to remind me to always remember what’s really important, and to choose people who love and need us, like our 5 grandchildren. If you know us you know we are very involved with spending time with them.

With that being said, after 13 years we have chosen to no longer have a booth at Country Creations in Brevard NC.We wish them well and encourage you to go support all our friends that still have booths there. People have asked us what are you going to do now, and well, we really don’t know. And that’s ok. Of course we will be at the Antique To***co Barn but beyond that we don’t know. For right now we are just trying to regroup and get rested after all the working til the middle of the night over a very short period of time to get moved out. We really didn’t realize how much stuff we had in there until we started dismantling all of it.
But we may go open another booth sometime somewhere else, we may go in business with other dealers or we may end up deciding to stay with just one. We simply just need time to process.

But, goodness, September is starting off right nice. Now, bring on some cooler temps and everything will be just fine. 😎🍂🍁

Today is “Barn Day”, and time for a restock. But I realized I never posted last Fridays restock 🤦🏼‍♀️. We took in an amazing table with leather chairs and bench. It lasted one day. So today we will be replacing it with a gorgeous gate leg table with 8 chairs we found in Georgia this week. And we will be restocking the lamps that have sold and lots of smalls.
Have a great Friday friends 😊!

It’s HOT , but goodness we were glad to see these mountains this evening. We’ve been hitting it hard today, and as much as I complain about our humidity up here, SC and Georgia are melting!!
It’s been a stressful week, but I think I’ve sweated my stress away! The flea market was decent for smalls this week.
One of our other pickin places faded out, but we’ve found some others. When one door closes….climb through the window 😂! We have to drive a lot farther but road trips are good for us in many ways, especially when there’s no cell service.
Somewhere in that last barn though are my favorite pair of reading glasses that I didn’t discover until
half way home.

I feel this on so many levels!
Instead of just wife, it’s “us” tryin’!!
But, we’re working on a plan to get it all corralled 🥳

Here lately we’ve had a few people just starting in this business of what is the best advice from our years of doing this. I’ve given this a lot of thought and there are alot more but these things I feel are the most important things we’ve learned.

1. WORK HARD. THEN WORK HARDER. BUT HAVE FUN.
There are no shortcuts in this business. The best opportunities usually come from years of showing up, doing the work, and being willing to do what others won’t. Hard work has a way of creating its own opportunities, but always stop to enjoy those opportunities and be proud of the hard work you put in.

2. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS, NOT JUST CONTACTS.
Get to know people. Build genuine connections. When someone you’ve done business with needs a hand, show up and help—even when there’s nothing in it for you. Do that consistently, and when the day comes that they’re ready to sell, you’ll be the person they call. And if you’ve treated them right, they’ll call you again and again.

3. BE LOYAL—BUT KNOW WHEN THAT LOYALTY IS NO LONGER BEING RETURNED.
Relationships and loyalty should go both ways. Value the people who have valued you, and never forget those who helped you along the way. But when someone stops appreciating your work, your word, or the relationship you’ve built, it’s okay to move on. There are plenty of people who will value loyalty. Put your time and energy there.

4. WHEN THE PHONE RINGS, GO.
When someone calls and says they’re ready to sell, you have to be willing to drop what you’re doing and get there. Time is rarely your friend in this business. People change their minds. Family members get involved. Someone else makes an offer. Opportunities have a funny way of disappearing when you wait too long.

5. REMEMBER, IT WAS NEVER JUST “STUFF” TO THEM.
Listen to the stories. Ask where something came from. Let them tell you about the grandmother who owned it, the trip where they bought it, or the house where it sat for 50 years. Pay attention to the nostalgia and emotion attached to their belongings. To us, it may eventually become inventory. To them, it was part of a home, a family, and a life. Honor that.

6. NEVER STOP LEARNING. STAY HUMBLE.
You will never know everything about everything that comes through your hands—and that’s okay. Part of being good at this business is knowing what you don’t know. When someone knows more about a particular subject than you do, listen. Ask questions. Pay attention. Be willing to admit when you’re wrong and change what you thought you knew. Some of the best education you’ll ever receive in this business comes from the people you meet along the way. The moment you think you know it all is the moment you stop getting better.

7. ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE—BE HONEST.
Be honest when nobody would know the difference. Be honest when it costs you money. Be honest when you could easily take advantage of someone who doesn’t know what they have. Your name and reputation are worth far more than the profit you might make on one deal.

Because without integrity, none of the rest matters.

After all these years, we’ve learned that this business really isn’t about antiques, furniture, boxes of forgotten treasures, or finding the next great piece.

IT’S ABOUT PEOPLE.

Work hard. Show up. Keep your word. Build relationships. Listen to their stories. Never stop learning. Stay humble. Respect what their belongings meant to them. Be loyal to the people who are loyal to you—and know when it’s time to walk away from those who aren’t.

The “stuff” will come and go.
Your reputation follows you everywhere.

Hey, I am who I am 🤷‍♀️😂!!Happy Friday friends!
