🌧️ Rain is one of those sounds that can make the world feel a little quieter for a minute. No music. No talking. Nothing to do. Just 15 seconds of real New England rain from my porch. Save this one for a day when everything feels a little too loud. 🤎

I swear pictures do not do this thing justice. 😂 This is a castor oil plant, Ricinus communis, and it has become one of my favorite plants in the garden. The leaves are HUGE and everyone who sees it in person stops to ask what it is, and fall in ❤️ with it. This is the plant castor oil comes from! Here’s the wild part, the seeds contain ricin and can be extremely toxic if chewed or crushed, while properly processed castor oil does not contain ricin. So basically I grew a gorgeous garden giant that is also trying to kill me. 😂 I still love her. Would you grow one just for those incredible leaves? 🪴

September 1st and somehow the little roadside stand already knows it’s fall. 🍂 Pumpkins, acorn squash, fresh eggs and a few things made right here at Buzz Basil & Blooms are starting to fill the shelves. If you’re local to Bridgewater, MA, save this for your next drive through. The stand changes constantly depending on what the garden, girls and season give us. 🤎

My favorite plant in the entire yard also happens to be the one I have to give a safety disclaimer about. 😂 This monster is a castor bean plant and YES, it grew like this in ONE season. Those enormous tropical looking leaves are why I absolutely love it. But pretty comes with a warning: castor bean seeds contain ricin and should never be eaten, and this isn’t a plant I’d put where children or pets can get into it. I grow mine as an ornamental and admire her with boundaries. 😂 Would you grow something this dramatic in your yard? 🌿

Well, I asked the ladybugs to deal with the aphid problem. Apparently they’re working on staffing first. 😂🐞 Should I give them some privacy or remind them they’re on the clock? 😂

I was going for cozy garden paradise. Apparently the vine and I are the only ones who got the memo. 😂 Please tell me I’m not the only one whose husband’s “stuff” slowly becomes part of the garden decor. 🌿

I may have gotten a little harvest happy 😂 Garden people, help me out. Did I pick anything too early? What would you have picked and what would you have left growing? I’m learning as I grow 🌱🍁

A little garden gathering, a few flowers, fresh herbs and apparently an entire committee of supervisors 😂 This is pretty much life around here. Growing what we can, using what we grow and figuring the rest out as we go. 🌿 Follow along if gardens, farmstand finds, animals and simple country life are your kind of thing.
