Enter the Cone Zone!
Last year when planning our new gardens, I realized that I could finally create my dream of a conifer garden. I really didn't know where to start except that I wanted unusual cone-bearing evergreens and as many "dwarfs" as I could get. I stumbled upon the AMERICAN CONIFER SOCIETY and was smitten with their informative site and even decided to attend their national conference last summer in Charlotte, NC. I met so many like-minded people and it was like Christmas just seeing all the different rare varieties available to members.
At the conference, we were able to meet many of the growers located around the country and visit Charlotte's beautiful public and private gardens. Iseli Nursery, located in Oregon, provided many plants for us to bid on in the silent auction and I must admit I was a bit greedy and came away with 27 varieties.
Earlier this year I ordered 136 dwarf conifers from Iseli and they were shipped early last week. Picture #1 shows how they arrived (in perfect condition) in 2"-3" pots. After a few hiccups, I was finally able to re-pot into one gallon containers ready for planting or for sale locally. Pictures #2 and #3 show the completed plants in our garden shed. I must note, I made some very good friends at the conference and Darlene and Dennis from Midland, MI came out to purchase 34 plants early! Thanks guys - and for lunch too!
If you are interested, the varieties I have on hand are as follows. They will go on sale the week before Mother's Day. Hopefully by then my new website will be up and running and you will be able to order them online too.
