Today we celebrate the independence of the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 — and I couldn’t be prouder to have Dominican roots running through my veins.
The Dominican Republic gained its independence on February 27, 1844, and this day is more than just a date in history — it’s a celebration of strength, resilience, culture, and faith.
One of the most beautiful symbols of the DR is its flag. At the very center of it is the Holy Bible — open to John 8:32, which reads: “And the truth shall make you free.” That verse reflects the country’s deep faith in God and the belief that freedom is rooted in truth. The Bible placed at the center of the flag shows that faith isn’t just a part of the culture — it’s the foundation. God is at the heart of the nation. And what a culture it is. The food, the music, the beaches — unmatched.
Today, in honor of Independence Day and my heritage, my kids and I made some delicious Dominican food: tostones, queso frito, and salchichón. And let me tell you — did we enjoy our meal? Absolutely! This was way better than pizza night. 😂 There’s something special about sharing the flavors of your culture with your children. It’s more than food — it’s history, pride, and love served on a plate.
Happy Independence Day to the Dominican Republic! Forever proud. 🇩🇴✨
