Path is based in North Jersey, and for as long as I can remember, the New York City skyline has been a backdrop to my life. I see it, from a distance, almost everyday.

The first time I ever drove in the city was back in 2019, in a U-haul on the way back from a delivery. Now, we find ourselves driving through Manhattan and Brooklyn for consultations and deliveries several times a month.

Brandon and I have always loved the energy you can’t help but feel in these places and feel so fortunate that our path has lead us here.

We recently completed this vertical grain White Oak storage bench for a wonderful couple in Brooklyn. Extending the pre-existing window still to create a full-on window seat, this bench adds function and beauty to an already jaw-dropping corner ✨

Haley + Cole came to us with a not-so-uncommon problem when you’re living in a New York City apartment - a small, underutilized corner that had both massive potential and a handful of design challenges.

Perfect for a banquette, this space was home to a low, long windowsill that stood in the way of creating functional seating to pair with their antique, heirloom table.

We met with them for an in-home consultation where we took precise measurements, got a better sense of their style and talked about what’s important to them when it comes to design and function.

From there and without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics, we designed a custom L-shaped banquette that seamlessly integrated their windowsill allowing the space to feel intentional rather than limiting.

Versatility in furniture is key when considering sustainability, and while this banquette was designed around a low-lying windowsill, it was important for us to consider how these benches would function in Haley + Cole’s next place.

We outfitted each of the benches with detachable, self-storing feet so they can stand freely and feel at home in any corner.

When Brandon and I first started Path, our definition of “custom” rarely went beyond the length and width of a tabletop and the stain or paint colors we planned to use.

As time has gone on, the level of customization we offer (and are so often intrigued by) has grown. We now find ourselves in truly unique spaces where big-box-store pieces simply wouldn’t make sense. To use the space properly, efficiently, designing the furniture around the space is a necessity.

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to transform a corner of a beautiful Brooklyn brownstone. With bay windows, this space was perfect for a comfy, cozy window seat (with tons of storage of course)!

The most time-consuming (and satisfying) aspect of this project was mapping out each and every angle of the over 100-year-old alcove so that this window seat felt like completely at-home.

A little over a year ago, we were asked to build a set of arched stools made entirely from Hickory Heartwood. In the same way that that project changed the trajectory of our work, this one did too.

This was, by far, the largest project we’ve take on - over 15’ long and 8’ tall. It was multi-faceted - doors, drawers, adjustable shelves, floating shelves, and required a lot of planning.

Completing this project gave us so much confidence. It was and will continue to be a reminder of what we’re capable of as woodworkers and as creatives.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how grateful we are to have collaborated with so many wonderful people who trust us to bring their vision to life ✨
