The John Deere 300 series was the fastest, simplest pull-type husker available. They were the last pull-type husker/corn picker that John Deere made and favored by the Amish because it was an upgrade from the older New Idea pull-type corn harvesters. Pull-type P.T.O-driven harvesting implements play a vital role in the Amish back-to-basics farming practices because they can be pulled with horse-drawn power forecarts.
