Big weekend around here. Buckeyes open Saturday at 12:30, it's Labor Day, and half of Dayton is going to be in the backyard with a smoker going.
Here's the thing we keep running into, and it's why we wrote this one.
Nobody in Columbus is nervous about Ball State. The worry is Texas the week after, and Michigan on the 28th. The opener is a tune-up — what actually decides a season is whatever got fixed back when nobody was paying attention.
Your house is on that same schedule. It's going to be gorgeous this weekend and your home is going to look completely fine. That's the trap. In 66 years of doing this, almost every emergency call we take in February traces back to something that was cheap, visible, and easy to ignore in September.
So we wrote your exterior like a depth chart. Roof is the offensive line. Gutters are special teams — the unit that quietly loses games. Attic insulation is strength and conditioning, invisible and unglamorous and the reason a house gets through a brutal December.
There are five things in there you can check from your own driveway in about ten minutes. If they all look clean, go enjoy your weekend with a clear conscience. If two or more look wrong, get it on the calendar — not because anything's on fire, but because Ohio contractor calendars fill through October and the good ones fill first.
And because it's Labor Day, Corey put his actual rib recipe at the bottom. Butcher paper instead of foil, membrane scored instead of pulled, Bertman's as the binder. Sweet Mercy Ribs. They're worth the six hours.
