He was born fighting.

Doctors told his family from day one that his kidneys were not like everyone else’s.
Polycystic kidney disease. A lifelong battle already written into his story.

Now Jose Luis Lopez is 31 years old… and his life depends on finding a new kidney.

One of his kidneys has already stopped working. The other is barely holding on at 6 percent function.
Every day he connects himself to dialysis at home.
Every day his family hopes it will be enough to keep him here just a little longer.

Some days he can barely walk. Some days he cannot even stand.

He had to give up the job he worked so hard for. He had to move back home in Brownsville, TX.

Dreams on pause. Life on pause.

He has always wanted to be a father someday… and he is terrified he may never get that chance.

His doctors are trying to get him approved for the transplant list in San Antonio.

But the uncertainty is clouding what should be a joyful time of year.
