Mudrooms are arguably one of our favorite spaces to design. They are utilitarian by nature, but as designers, our goal is to make them as beautiful as possible while also setting the tone for the rest of the home.
Mudrooms work hard for families. They are the first room you enter when coming home and the last one you leave when heading out the door.
A few things we incorporated for this client to make the space as hardworking as possible: open shoe storage below the bench that is accessible for kids and easy to clean, a durable wood-finished bench, multiple hooks for each family member, and large, closed storage closets for out-of-season outerwear.
Additionally, we also selected a durable vinyl wallpaper. Drywall is a big no for us in a room that works this hard. We added beautiful lighting, space for a memo board to keep important things handy, and plenty of counter space to serve as a drop zone complete the space.
One of our favorite details, though, is the set of faux drawers that opens to reveal a large cavity for storing their dog food. As designers, we consider every member of the household, not just the human ones!
