Small projects, big impact! Double pointed knitting needle sets are now labeled so you no longer need to summon me with my little broken needle gauge to find the size you need.

Had the most perfect inaugural Gemma Fabrics workshop tonight! I meant to take more in progress photos but got completely caught up in the stitching and chatting. It’s such a gift to see new friendships start at the table over a shared love of fiber arts and an eagerness to learn a new skill.

Thanks to this incredible group of women for starting us off with the best creative energy and cheers to many more events just like it!

Do you have a skill or project that you’d like to share with a small group? Ignore the imposter syndrome doubts and get in touch! I’m looking to add a variety of workshops to the calendar this spring and summer.

Next up on the calendar this month is another two part hand sewing class:

Sukoshi Saifu (Little Bag) Meditative Hand Sewing
$55 | Saturday 4/25 AND 5/2 10am-12:30pm

This is a TWO PART workshop. Tickets can be purchased at https://gemmafabrics.com/products/hand-sewing-workshop-sukoshi-saifu-little-bag

This completely hand sewn little bag is based on the Japanese idea that slow sewing is a meditative practice where the focus is on mindfulness and not perfection. The great part about this little bag is that most of the stitch work does not show making it a perfect beginner sewing project. No anxieties about uneven stitch work necessary!

What would you do with this little bag? On game night we use our little bag to roll the dice. I’ve also used them to hold small projects, or my sewing kit. Once you have the know-how, you can make them in any size you like.

* Saturday, April 25th: We will cover fabric choices, cut out pieces, and begin sewing the body of the bag. Also, I will demonstrate ironing tactics to help get those clean crisp edges. There will be homework as hand sewing is a slow process.

* Saturday, May 2nd: With the body completed, we will move on to forming the peek-a-boo pleats, inside lining and finishing work including adding embellishments.

All materials will be provided at time of workshop.

First new workshop of the month!

Hoop & Hang Embroidery Tote Bag
$40 | Friday 4/10 6-8pm

Tickets can be purchased at https://gemmafabrics.com/products/embroidery-workshop-hoop-and-hang-icon-tote-bag.

Come hang with us and learn the basics of hand embroidery. Perfect for beginners! You will be stitching a fun, unique icon tote using the basic back stitch. You will be able to pick and choose your variety of icons from the center of the table and design your bag! Each person will be able to pick a scarf to add to their tote.

All materials will be provided to continue your new hobby at home - hoop, needle minder, needle, needle threader, embroidery confidence, and a bag where you can say ā€œThanks, I made it!ā€.

If you would like a special icon or word request, please include a note at checkout or message Becky directly at StitchedbyBuns.

Regular shop hours have resumed. I will probably be back & forth to NY for a bit over the next few months, but it should just be on my days off now. Thanks for always being so understanding when life rearranges shop hours.

SHOP HOURS
Tuesday - Saturday 12-6pm
(open late to at least 8pm on Wednesdays!)
Sunday & Monday closed

With the trip out of town, I had to postpone my initial plans to celebrate the shop’s first birthday last weekend. Hoping to do a little belated something next week if the weather is nice. And first April workshop announcement to go out in the email newsletter tomorrow!

PHILLY YARN CRAWLERS!!! I have extended shop hours for you this weekend. Here from 10-8 today and Friday, 10-6 Saturday and Sunday.

Gemma Fabrics is **NOT ON THE PASSPORT** so please do not factor a visit to the shop in your plan for raffle entries. Just thought it might make a nice bonus stop on your itinerary, especially those who don’t make it up this way very often.

There is more yarn than ever packed into the store at the moment, and I’ll be sorting through more all weekend.

It’s a little bittersweet sitting this one out after working the first two years with . Be sure to swing by Yan’s and my neighbors over at . The north part of the map is well worth the trip!

Have a fantastic crawl everyone!

Workshop registration is open! First up is a Thursday evening hand stitching class on 3/12 that features an adorable birdie plushie, and a two session Saturday morning class for scrappy coil work trinket bowls on 3/21 & 3/28.

Tickets are available to purchase on the website. Seats are limited so I will be keeping a waiting list if needed.

We’ll have the scrap bins out for these workshops which is the most fun part for me. Some of the best fabrics come in never make it to the remnant and yardage shelves because they aren’t full selvedge-to-selvedge width. Both workshop projects are great opportunities to play with materials and color and texture and embellishments!

As space allows, the scrap bins will also be shoppable in the near future and priced by the pound.

Have a project or skill you’d like to teach to a small group? Celeste and I have been working diligently on getting a functional classroom set up next door in the studio. Reach out if you’re interested in teaching and we can get something on the calendar for this spring!

The transition from nights & weekends to more regular store hours has officially happened! Thank you for being part of my journey to this point. I'm very excited for this new chapter. Planning to have a larger table set up in the studio a little later this week so you can come hang out any time we don't have a class or workshop running.

THE SHOP IS CLOSED TODAY, SUNDAY MARCH 1ST.

First day as a full time self employed shop owner, and the universe had other plans for me. When I decided to start the new schedule on March 1st, I didn’t realize the first and second of the month would also happen to be my two days off. But it sorta felt like a sign to take the much needed rest before fully jumping into full time shop mode.

Gemma Fabrics will now be open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-6pm, with additional evening hours until 8pm for WIP Wednesday stitch circle nights.

The shop will be closed on Sundays and Mondays so I can overlap some time off with family and friends for the first time in a long time. We’ll test it out for a month or so and revise as needed, or extend again if things go well and I’m able to hire someone later this year!

To give us a chance to finish setting up the classroom for this month’s inaugural workshops, I’m asking everyone to pause donations for a bit if possible. It should open back up by April at the latest.

A few weeks of solid attention during the week should allow me to get the shop shelves fully stocked and any overflow ready to go. (If we already talked about a donation recently or you’re on a really tight timeline, please reach out and I’ll do my best to accommodate those requests.)
