A little Norton’s Flowers update from us:
We have officially completed our 8th full month of owning Norton’s Flowers, and I felt like it was time to talk about a few things and clear up some questions we’ve heard along the way.
First of all, Norton’s Flowers is doing very well! We cannot thank this community enough for supporting us, welcoming us, and trusting us with your flowers. We truly appreciate every order, every recommendation, every kind word, and every person who has walked through our doors.
If you’ve ordered from us since we took over, you’ve probably noticed some changes. We have brought in some new programs, websites, and ways of doing business that we also use at our other flower shop in Upper Sandusky.
Why?
Because when you take over an existing business, you have to make it your own.
We have a tremendous amount of respect for the history of Norton’s Flowers and the people who have built it over the years. But we want Norton’s Flowers to reflect who we are, what we create, and the kind of experience we want to provide our customers. We are not interested in simply continuing what was done before us. We want to build our own success while respecting the name and history we were fortunate enough to inherit.
A little clarification about FTD
We have heard that some people think Norton’s not being an “FTD Florist” has hurt our business.
It hasn't. And here's why.
FTD, Teleflora, Avas Flowers, 1-800-Flowers and many more alike are not flower shops. They are companies/platforms that advertise and sell flower orders and then send those orders to local florists like us to fill.
There are also certain requirements that come with being part of those larger services like FTD and Teleflora, including purchasing specific containers and products from them in order to sell their advertised arrangements.
Quite honestly, that's just not the direction we want to go.
We don't want to be a cookie-cutter flower shop.
We want you to call Norton’s and get Norton’s Flowers.
We are currently working on building our own product line you will see when you order online. It just takes time to do so. We want our designs to be ours. We want to choose our own containers, our own flowers, our own colors, and create arrangements that we are proud to put our name on.
Lastly, for those who don't know me…
I'm Katie Wentling.
I'm from Bucyrus. I grew up here. I went to school here. I have a lot of family here. This is home.
When Norton’s Flowers became available for purchase, I was excited about the opportunity to carry on a name that has been a part of this community since 1882. Keeping the Norton’s name was very important to the previous owner, and it was important to us as well. We are proud to continue that legacy while also building something that reflects our vision for the future.
As a small business owner, you have to be creative. You have to find ways to operate efficiently, control costs, and make decisions that allow your business to grow and remain successful. Every decision we make is with the future of Norton’s Flowers in mind.
We know we are still establishing ourselves, and we look forward to finding more and more ways to contribute to the Bucyrus community as we continue to grow.
Thank you for supporting Norton’s Flowers, for giving us a chance, and for allowing us to be a part of your birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, funerals, celebrations, and everyday moments.
We are proud to be here. We are proud to be Norton’s Flowers. And we are excited for what the future holds.
