We’re excited to share that select Litelab power distribution products have achieved a Declare label from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI)!

Declare labels provide clear disclosure of product ingredients, helping architects, designers, and sustainability leaders make informed material choices aligned with healthy building goals. This milestone reflects Litelab’s commitment to transparent supply chains and responsible material selection, supporting project teams pursuing advanced frameworks such as Living Building Challenge and LEED. As material health becomes an increasingly important consideration in building design, transparency around product ingredients is critical for advancing healthier buildings. We’re proud to support the design community in this effort and look forward to continuing to improve material health and transparency.

Litelab worked with Lighting Designer to develop a custom linear LED system for the MoMA Design Store. The Litelab system has linear LED downlights producing up to 1770 Lumens / ft. with high (95) CRI, producing a bright, vibrant environment. BusRun power distribution in the upper channel provides infrastructure for high output, high CRI spotlights, to highlight and emphasize merchandize. The system functions aesthetically like a baffle, masking architectural services above, while redirecting visual interest to the displays below.

Calder once described his mobiles as fields of “deployed nuclei” creating an “atmospheric condition.” Through their interaction with space and time, Calder’s works (whether stabile or mobile) evolves, embracing infinite permutations based on itinerate transformations. Calder Gardens designed by Herzog & de Meuron with lighting design by FLUX Studio provides a landscape for such evolution. Similar in design to English picturesque gardens, the space unfolds in promenade, with folies providing moments of surprise and discovery.

🎉 Celebrating 50 Years of Innovation: Litelab’s Journey 🎉

In 1975, Rick Spaulding co-founded Litelab—what began as a theatrical lighting distribution company soon became a force in the world of design and innovation.

From lighting nightclubs during the golden age of disco (yes, they supplied components to Studio 54!) to weathering the crash of that era in 1980, Litelab pivoted with purpose. The challenge pushed the team to explore new frontiers—museums and high-end retail.

The turning point? Inventing the Busway system, a game-changing lighting solution that made Litelab a trusted partner for museums worldwide.

By 1998, Litelab was lighting up the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and working with top global brands like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, and Ralph Lauren.

What’s our secret? ✨
We listen. We adapt. We perfect.
Litelab doesn’t just make lighting—we refine it for spaces where art, culture, and experience matter most.

Here’s to 50 years of lighting the way forward.

🟢 A Renovated Space That Shines Bright 👜

Longchamp’s SoHo flagship has been reimagined into a bold, immersive experience—where flowing steel sculptures meet radiant neon greens and matcha-toned carpets. The 2025 renovation, led by , balances Parisian heritage with futuristic flair.

New custom lighting fixtures by enhance every detail, bringing vibrant color and atmosphere to the sculptural interiors. From the iconic staircase to the curated displays, light is used to shape mood, elevate texture, and spotlight design.

This transformation builds on a vision first crafted nearly 20 years ago proving that great design evolves but never forgets its roots.

: A Bold Move in Museum Innovation

In 2014, the Harvard Art Museums completed a transformative expansion led by architect Renzo Piano and lighting designers Arup. At a time when LED lighting was still emerging and met with skepticism in museum settings, Harvard made the strategic decision to implement integrated LED systems—prioritizing conservation, sustainability, and curatorial excellence.

This evidence-based approach, developed in collaboration with institutions like Litelab and the Straus Center, positioned Harvard as a leader in museum lighting and architectural integration. The project not only unified three historic museums under one roof but also set a new standard in how museums can evolve while safeguarding cultural heritage.

📍A masterclass in architectural integration and innovation.

to One of Our Favorite Design Challenges ✨

At Litelab, we thrive on bold ideas and complex design puzzles. In 2013, we had the honor of fabricating a truly one-of-a-kind chandelier for the Parrish Art Museum. The fixture was designed with Konstantin Grcic and realized with architects Herzog & de Meuron. Set against the minimalist, barn-inspired architecture of the museum, these sculptural chandeliers float like mechanical blossoms—crafted through a hybrid of traditional hand-spinning and cutting-edge 3D metal printing. Balancing art, technology, and budget—this project pushed our boundaries and proved just how far creativity and craftsmanship can go when they work in harmony.

📸 The first and second images show the museum's office and retail spaces.
📸 The third captures our very own Mike Heaverlo in action, installing fixtures on site.

It’s a glowing reminder of how collaboration and curiosity can transform vision into reality.

Litelab: Mastering the Art of Light Control at L10

At Brooklyn’s new L10 Arts and Cultural Center, light isn’t just functional — it’s foundational.

Litelab, in collaboration with HLB Lighting Design, engineered a LiteBus system that delivers precise, programmable light control across L10’s multidisciplinary spaces. From film screenings to dance performances, this DMX-enabled system adapts in real time — controlling brightness, colour temperature, and beam shaping to meet the exact needs of curators, performers, and community users.

Above, architectural baffles conceal and reveal the building’s infrastructure — but it’s the lighting that transforms it. This is lighting as design, infrastructure as expression — where Litelab’s mastery creates an environment that is both technically advanced and artistically resonant. 📍 At L10, light is not an afterthought. It’s the language of space.

Litelab is excited to announce the reopening of the Design Within Reach showroom in Paramus, New Jersey. This space is crafted to honor the century-long tradition of human-centric design embodied by the work of MillerKnoll. Rooted in Bauhaus principles, MillerKnoll (a merger of Herman Miller and Knoll) have produced some of the most timeless furniture designs and are known for their iconic list of designers and the equally icon works that they produced.

A standout in space: the Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. Manufactured by Knoll, the minimalist geometry and refined materials echo the subdued elegance of the Pavilion where they were first used. Combining modern materials (like steel) with traditional ones (leather), the chair reflects the modernist investment in material exploration, while respecting handcraft techniques. The result is a synthesis that embodies a sensitivity to texture, contrast, structure and form.

Reich regularly collaborated with Mies van der Rohe, with whom she worked in the Weimar period, producing such pieces as the Barcelona Chair and the Weissenhof Chair. But even before meeting van der Rohe, Reich enjoyed a celebrated career as a furniture and textile designer, working with some of the top brands of the time. In 1912, she was elected to membership in the Werkbund, which sought to synthesize art and industry, and was later named to its Board of Directors. She was also one of a handful of women instructors at the Bauhaus, a list that includes Marianne Brandt and the photographer Lucia Moholy.

At Litelab, we’re proud to light environments that tell stories of design, history, and inclusion, like the Werkbund, the Bauhaus and the many designers represented by MillerKnoll. We celebrate creativity and invention—and visionaries like Reich, Ray Eames, and Florence Knoll and who helped shape modern design.
