Good evening all! Welcome back!
I've been working hard on some quilts for 2 of my friends. One I will share in a few weeks, as it is unique! The other is a T shirt quilt! I love making memories.
So today I will share one of my favorite quilts. This quilt was time consuming to piece and quilt with machine. I love the fussy-cut snow blocks that highlight this quilt. The bordering details and outer borders make this quilt so eye appealing. I zoomed in to show the snowflake details. One picture shows it hanging in my livingroom. This is my go to quilt for winter months.
Hope you enjoyed!
'Til next time, take Care!

Here is a quilt I made for my second granddaughter in 2013. This was her crib quilt. I love the colors so bright and bold. That's why I used this to represent my page! I hand quilted the entire quilt, and it took a while to complete. I used a large wooden hoop and heavy quilting thread. Again my fingers were very sore by the time I competed the project. I pieced this together using my very first sewing machine bought in 1984. It was a Viking and it was very basic. The throat on the machine was ok for everyday sewing and when I attempted to quilt it just did not work. That is when I invested in a larger quilting machine. I was able to purchase a used Pfaf at Wilson's Your Favorite Quilt Shop in Hagerstown. I thought I died and went to quilting heaven! It embroidered and all! What a dream! That's a story to begin another chapter in my quilting world for another time!
So here is my gift to my second g baby. All with love and the sore fingers.
I hope you enjoy my posts. Please like and share!
Love to you all!

For my first post I will highlight a quilt project asked of me from a friend. She had a quilt her grandmother made back in the 1950's, with the Grandmother's Flower Garden block design. She asked if I could make a keepsake for her Dad out of the quilt. I thought that would be simple enough. So I agreed. She showed me the quilt and it was in a bad way. The fabric was torn worn and tattered. The blocks were intact but barely. You could tell the fabric was old clothes and bedsheets, not uncommon for quilt making back then. So I had my work cut out for me.
The well loved quilt sat in my quilting area for about a year. I would stare at it from time to time trying to figure out what I would do. I would stare, ponder and cuss. finally I decided to just cut. So I cut all the old fabric until all I had left with the original blocks. Her grandmother's beautiful hand work. All I could think of was the time, talent and love that went into those blocks. I took the best preserved block, and sewed it into another quilt. I added an embroidered block that had her name, date of birth and date of death; accented by some Ohio Star blocks and hand embroidering around the edges. It turned out well. My friend presented it to her Dad on his birthday. My creation made him smile through tears. That was worth the year long pondering. It made my heart happy knowing he had a piece of his mother. That quilt I am told is framed and no one is allowed to touch it except him.
I had some left over blocks from the quilt so I decided to make my friend a quilt. Now she still has a quilt from her grandmother.

All worth it in the end. All the blood, sweat and tears... and that is how the Sore Finger Quilting got started...
Love to you all!

Welcome to my page!
Here I will share my love of quilting. My mother taught me to sew at an early age. Quilting became an interest when I ambled into a local quilt store and I was hooked. My creative spirit found an outlet! I hope my stories and pictures will bring a smile to your face...one stitch at at time!
