This is the reason I moved here 20 YEARS ago! This studio was built by John and James Rico around 1920 from field stones and timber from their own sawmill. It was a carpenter's shop, artist studio, party room, and now my "happy place" to sew. With tons of help from Len, it has new windows, gutters, a front door, flooring, and paint. We added that roughly sewn siding this summer. A maple tree was hiding the view so instead, there is a grand garden with frog ponds to distract my walk to work. I will post more pictures throughout the month to celebrate my anniversary of Custom Textiles!

A few years back I made this window lambrequin with room darkening shades for a beautiful, special needs child. The firm sides are to prevent handling and the shades overlap to prevent light leaking too. In the spirit of the happening this weekend, I want to share these pictures for inspiration.

Fantastic spring day to install Mosquito Curtains on the porch of this beautiful home. The porch will now be protected from nasty bugs, wind debris, and rain, while they can enjoy the stunning view. I have these translucent curtains on my porch too. The company provided the hardware track (Forest) and they are secured with big snaps and rare earth magnets. A dream to operate. I made the cushions and white stationary curtains for the pergola patio with fabric from Tempotest and Outdura. Gorgeous spring day in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut! I installed these curtains in the stairwell of this home built in 1740. Originally it was the meeting house for homesteaders to drink and discuss politics for the new colonies and establish this country. It also had been owned by film stars and others working in entertainment. Driving to another install I found a church with original oil lamps, stunning views, a big-ass cow, ate ice cream and caught some sun. Its so healing to drive slowly on the backroads.

I restored and restyled clients' old shades for another 10 years. Previous flat shades didn’t let the wool embroidered on linen fabric work as a flat roman. They puckered and bunched up beside sun faded. They needed to relax. The new bronze chains on the clutch track lifts are easier and more convenient too. What a great backyard leading to the Farmington River!
