no cap, the Gen Z approach would save me so much time in putting together flavor launches but WHERE WOULD ALL MY ENERGY GO IF I DIDNT WAX POETIC AT EVERY POSSIBLE TURN!?!?

🥜anyway, it’s the 1st of the month which means MARSHMALLOW FLAV DROP DAY! and the theme of the month is - making an appearance in BOTH of our June specials: floofer nutter (an all-time seasonal best seller) and chocolate peanut butter (a brand new sweet & salty dreeeeams!!)

📢It’s also last call for Caramallows until the fall. They’re just a littttle too heat sensitive to be shipping in the throes of summer heat. We will miss you 🫡 (come see us at tho bc they’ll be there!!)

And now for some important SMALL BIZ LIFE TRANSPARENCYYYY!! we’re making some temporary changes to our shipping options starting tomorrow.

☀️ Shipping in the summer is always a challenge, and this year there’s an added layer of *an oil crisis* that has increased the cost of shipping (like, very dramatically).

This has made our $50 minimum to unlock free shipping untenable, and our usual $7-$8 standard shipping option isn’t coming anywhere close to breakeven on most standard shipping packages. Boo, remember when I could ship across the country for $4???

Layer this with carriers taking 8-10 days to deliver with standard shipping, instead of the promised 3-4 days. This is always a pain, but during the summer can actually ruin our meltable product.

We know the heat is temporary. We hope the oil prices are too. So for the summer, to protect the product & maintain a sustainable business model, shipping options will look like this at checkout:

- no standard shipping option. too expensive, takes too long, too unreliable. this will return in the fall!
- $15 express shipping (1-3 days)
- $25 summer shipping (1-3 days, thermal wrap, ice packs, insurance)
- free express shipping over $75

I wanted to give you a 24 hour heads up about the changes. I truuuuly appreciate your understanding while we navigate these extremely hot & extremely expensive times, right alongside these magical new marshmallow flavors!!

thx to my Gen Z sister for the assist on this post 🔥

true life: I go to bed early on Friday night to be ready to sling marshmallows at the farmers market Saturday morning, and I’m too sleepy from working the farmers market to go out Saturday night 💤

POWER TO ANYONE WHO CAN DO BOTH. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN I AM.

when i first started the business and spent all day every day making, packaging, and marketing marshmallows, friends would come to the farmers market *specifically* to hang out bc they knew they wouldn’t be seeing me otherwise. we also had some very fun “want to come put marshmallows in bags for a few hours?” hangouts.

even though those moments existed because e everything in the business was SO HARD, i knew that i’d miss them one day.

ONE DAY HAS ARRIVED!

a lot, nearly everything, has changed since then. but my friday bedtime is the same: find me all rested up this saturday morning at for UVM GRADUATION WEEKEND (WOOOOO!).

hope to see ya :)

I say it a million times every farmers market (apparently, with a fresh inflection every time!) and it never gets old.

I started using this greeting early in my vending days, mostly bc my signage wasn’t good enough and people would come up asking, “tofu? cheese? soap?”

So I started saying “welcome to the marshmallow stand” right out of the gate so there were no question marks about what the business was.

Now the signage is clear & people understand what they’re walking into when they visit my tent, but I’ve keep the phrase bc of the way I see it land on peoples systems. Disarmed, delighted, with a million more interesting responses than a “hi how are ya?” might elicit.

Sorry to my neighbor vendors who have to hear this all day looooong 😘

call me shallow but you can COUNT ON ME to be distracted on the job when a cute boy walks by 😘

Thank you .vt!!

A few more bonus tips bc I can’t stop: EVERYONE says “made with love in small batches,” find more compelling words to use about your business! get a directors chair so you can sit down but still by at eye level with people!! Add height variation to your table whenever possible; wood crates are your friends here bc they’re pretty and can be used to transport stuff so there’s no wasted space in your car!! Find a vendor that serves drinks with natural electrolytes & drink up (I love the Argentinian stand who slings cane sugar, lime & ginger drinks)!! Befriend your neighbor vendors (for so many reasons but also) so they can guard your cashbox while you grab a snack or hit the bathroom!!
