Pups and gals afternoon at Zero Gravity Beer Hall on a random ☀️ Spring day.
You know how it goes — someone tosses out an idea and 2 months later when the sunshine comes out, plans finally fall into place.
I hadn’t been back since the last owners and was pleasantly surprised. Same fun, laid-back vibe — part brewery, part restaurant, part hangout spot.
The dog-friendly patio? I had no idea how perfect it is. Countless adorable pups wagging their tails, all well behaved, offering sweet kisses and encouraging belly rubs.
We ordered multiple rounds of fresh waffles — funfetti with whipped cream was a huge hit with the pups — and Bridgeport Creamery cheese curds with some of the best ranch I’ve had lately.
Shared the tangy tuna melt with my girl Vermont For Real • Rebecca Loaded with flavor, pickles, fresh lettuce, crispy bread — not your average tuna melt.
Also tasted the house-made bratwurst (vegan option avail!) with Bavarian kraut, caramelized onion, dijonnaisse on a soft potato roll.
The steak sandwich had shaved beef, Champlain Valley Creamery cheese sauce, peppers and onions, garlic aioli on an August First Bakery & Cafe First sesame roll. Fresh, filling, quality you can taste. All mains ~$14-20.

Very impressed, very full and happy. Dog-friendly patio, conveniently located on Pine St. — park near City Market and walk over to stretch your legs. Coffee and waffles start at 8am, full menu 12-9pm.
Solo (great bar area), with a group (note: no reservations), with kids or pups — all welcome. Perfect spot to finally meet up with that friend group you’ve been trying to catch for months.

…… Still thinking about those cheese curds and ranch 🤤

Birthday dinner at 🙌
I’d been hoarding an old birthday gift card for “the right time” for way too long. Turns out this yrs birthday + a friend who wanted to try the new (to us) location = the right time. Stop hoarding gift cards, people. Use them (speaking to myself).
I adored their original location — it was one of my family’s top special occasion spots growing up. I was bummed when they moved, but so excited to try the new artisanal pasta joint, that opened there (have only heard incredible things, hope to go soon!).

We started with Parker House rolls (find yourself friends who get excited about bread + butter — happy life hack) and Barnstable oysters with beet cocktail sauce 🦪 (surprising combo, but it works).
Then our mains arrived: oxtail ragu with house-made pasta and a chilled beet salad. The salad was gorgeous and delicious but I did wish it had come with the oysters as a starter instead — rather than alongside the hot decadent ragu. Zero complaints on the dish itself, just my own ordering observation (on me!).

The oxtail ragu though? We grinned at each other from the smell alone. Light sauce, rich flavor, perfect pasta, toasted breadcrumbs. Our waitress recommended it and she did not miss. Still thinking about it & still happy I saved a roll to soak up allll the sauce.

The whole night felt special — 5pm res (iykyk), window seat overlooking Waterbury, good catch-up convo, food that clearly took time and care. Even the bathroom wallpaper made me smile 🦌🦊🐰

I don’t eat out like this often — it’s not typically in my budget to just go casually — but when I do, it matters that a place lives up to expectations. Fresh thoughtfully planned food is expensive (as it should), and this was worth it. Solo dining is my usual, but splitting with a friend makes it more doable + you get to try more!

Worth the wait. Worth the gift card. Worth celebrating properly.
Thank you 👏🙏

Bringing back — upgraded.
Still solo. Still budget-conscious. Still local. 🍔

After all the love on my Best Bites of 2025 (plus the DMs + real-life run-ins 🥰), I wanted to bring this series back to support the food community I love so much. We have takeout options — let’s keep them local. I actually did a whole burger review throughout the state last year but never posted.. I’m only going to share my faves this time + other delicious items I loved for takeout.

I share a lot of food from home because that’s real life for me, but eating out here and there is also how we show up for our community. These spots are run by local people, employing our neighbors & keeping dollars circulating close to home — and that matters now more than ever (at least to me).

This series is also about realistic takeout. Less “takeout haul” energy where you’re left wondering 1) how much did that cost? 😳 and 2) there’s no way you’re eating all that without waste. Fun to watch — just not my style or my budget.

First stop back: in Shelburne, Vermont.
A longtime favorite — consistently good, friendly, and easy for to-grab, drive-through or dine-in.

Why I ordered this:
I wanted a classic burger — something I don’t usually make at home when it’s just me because it means committing to buns and ground meat all week —not horrible but does require some planning.

The order:
Champlain cheeseburger — $11.99
American, medium
All the basics included (pickles were👌)
Carrots instead of fries (+$0)
House-made ranch = Always a pro move

The verdict:
Nothing too fancy, no weird up-charges — just a SOLID classic burger that beyond beats that quick option that contains who knows what... Bonus points for using local beef 👌

Upgraded instant ramen night 🍜 in under 20 min.

When it’s dumping snow and leaving the house is a hard no, this is my go-to: better-than-basic DIY miso ramen. Cozy, budget-friendly, and totally customizable with pantry + freezer staples. Skip the $$ takeout, keep the comfort.

Miso ramen base (2 servings):
• miso paste (white or red)
• garlic + ginger
• green onion
• soy sauce or tamari
• sesame oil
• broth or water
• noodles (use what you like)

Add what you like:
Frozen or fresh veggies · tofu or egg · edamame · chili crisp · sriracha

This is very much a choose-your-own-adventure bowl — more noodles, more veg, extra cozy.
Full recipe + swaps are up on my Substack 🔗 ⬆️ or comment ‘ramen’ and I’ll send it your way ! ❄️
