Pictures might be more powerful than words in this occasion. Our first retreat was absolutely divine. The vibrancy, the care, the support, the vulnerability, the power, and the love. All emotions gathered for days of story sharing and stretching in a spectrum. You all made me feel so welcomed and appreciated. I am beyond filled with gratitude. I came out of last weekend a version of myself that I want to continue to cultivate. thank you so much for your trust in me and the mystery. So excited for the next, and next, and next šŸ

With a hint of spring in the air I’m dreaming of dirty hands and full bowls. Coming up in mid February I am cooking for my first retreat in 2024
This relationship has been growing with such sweetness and respect, watering gently and with all dreams in mind. Winter has been so reflective heavy and mind expanding, which has been wonderfully necessary. And now I’m ready for my body to bear some fruit after soaking up the low glow in hibernation 🐻

Autumn’s harvest still glowing as ever. This pumpkin was grown by an eccentric old man in the valley. As he made the sale of this beauty to my wife he ranted about why the cost of vegetables is too dang low. ā€œA dollar a pound is what this is and what it needs to beā€. Not much of a complaint but more so a surprise when the final weight and math was finished. The pumpkin has take. Us through almost 2 full seasons—the first in an ornamental role and in the second it sweetened and we roasted it in wedges. Assessing a cost to a miracle is tricky business. And one that only the man who grew it, through his negotiation with sky and soil, can set.

I read a little while back about a community of Arabs and Israeli Jews living in northern Israel that drink black coffee and eat sweet dates when in mourning. This pairing symbolizes the bittersweet nature of life, be it at its end or in its midst. I haven’t felt like sharing my devastation about what is happening in the Middle East here. A snapshot of an emotional response on here does not represent the constant back and forth of my mind and the ever-growing uncertainty of what will become. I refuse to make this political because I feel that politics are part of why the circumstances are what they are. I am a believer of peace, of learning, of sharing black coffee and sweet dates in grief and praise for our precious lives.

This past weekend I provided food and shared my business with a community of amazing and powerful business owners and health practitioners working to support moms and families in WNC. There was such solidarity around supporting each other and working towards more support and healing for all families. I was honored to be included among this group of some of the most brilliant women, mothers, and friends. This is still only the beginning of a lifetime filled with cooking as a means to heal, comfort, and support.

We are so honored to announce a deeply meaningful collaboration with Death Doulas of NC. They are a beautiful organization providing services to those in the later days of life, and they do so with such grace and presence.

In The Wild Edge of Sorrow Francis Weller writes, ā€œfor us to tolerate the rigors of engaging the images, emotions, memories, and dreams that arise in times of grief, we need to fortify our interior ground.ā€ I believe food can help with this fortification of our interior ground, supporting us in the process of grieving.

We are offering services for various stages of the grieving process that can be found via www.deathdoulasofnc.com/directory

I am so open to the unfolding of this relationship and how I may be able to help those during their grief.

Offering healing kits to new mourners is the most nourishing aspect of my work. There is such a deep feeling of intimacy amongst a new family during the precious time following birth, and I am honored to be able to give a little of my love. I am eternally thankful to those who have allowed me to cook and create for you. Blessing to all, families and beyond.

Tasty treat for spirit—There’s a time and place for a big bowl of ice cream and that time is now, the dog days of summer, and that place is here. I used raw milk and never heated it, therefore all of the cow-y goodness remained. The flavor pictured is Peach Almond. I Also made Mint Chocolate Chip, a personal fave, that was swallowed up before taking a picture šŸ˜‹
