I honestly spent most of my adult life feeling broken, like there was somet

hing wrong with me. Thankfully my journey led me to the tools I needed to take creative control of my life. I’ve learned to fall in love with my life. Dedicated to those who can't be caged! It is my mission to help other women get past their bullsh*t to create the life they didn’t know was possible.

Today on the blog: From Chicken Chores to Roller Skates: Our Grandkid's week in Burton.

When our grand kiddos spent a week with us in April, I was pleasantly surprised by how many memories we could make right here in our little rural community.

And frankly, I feel like we're only scratching the surface.

If you're thinking about planning a family getaway to rural Washington County, let me assure you—the kids won't be bored. From festivals and ice cream to parks, roller skating, farm animals, and simple country adventures, there's plenty of memory-making waiting to happen.

And when you're ready to slow down and enjoy it all, Flown the Coop Stays offers the perfect home base. Bring the kids, the grandkids, or the whole family and experience the kind of simple rural fun that creates stories they'll still be talking about long after they get home.

I've been an empty nester for about 16 years (don't quote me on that—it could be more or less). Activities for kiddos aren't exactly my specialty these days... until my grandkids come to visit. When they spent a week with us in April, I was pleasantly surprised by how many memories we could make ri...

June is for joy!

I follow a lady on TikTok, who shared this morning that June is for Joy. She went on to say that the month will also be wild with wonder.

Being wild with wonder is what will float through my thoughts today as I float in the pool.

What is floating around your thoughts today… the 2nd day in the month of Joy?

When I moved to Burton 11 years ago, my city friends warned me I’d be bored.

Instead, I’ve found live music, winery nights, long walks, community, and a slower pace that somehow feels fuller.

Oh—and it’s canning season. 🥒 did you catch my video on how easy it is?

Maybe small-town life isn’t about having less to do. Maybe it’s about making room for what matters.

"You'll be bored."

That's what my friends asked when I moved from Houston to Burton 11 years ago.

Today, I'm sharing a new blog about why rural life is anything but boring—and why more people are discovering the beauty of small-town travel.

Read the blog, explore Burton, and embrace a slower summer pace. Sometimes the best adventures are found in the smallest places.

When I first told my friends in Houston Heights that I was moving to Burton, Texas, the response was almost immediate:"You'll be bored."At the time, I understood the question. Burton is a town of just a few hundred people. There are no traffic jams, no endless rows of restaurants, and no packed even...

Canning is a science… unless your in my kitchen. Here we go with the flow.

Follow along as I make refrigerator pickles.

Meandering seems to be the word of the week! I still love piddling….

This morning I harvested cucumbers, green beans, onions, and collected eggs from my girls. I plan on canning pickles today. 🤞

But for now, I’m enjoying sitting in the backyard with dirt under my fingernails and a wild frizzy hair do… just soaking in my favorite time of the year.

What are you doing on a Saturday morning?

POV: You’re standing in the middle of a project that still looks a little rough around the edges… but somehow you can already feel the life it’s going to hold.

This is The Coop.
Our future home.

Right now it’s plans, dust, decisions, and a whole lot of dreaming. But I can already see the slow mornings, the late night conversations, the coffee on the porch, the friends gathered around the table, and the kind of life we’ve been working toward for years.

I’ve learned that sometimes you have to believe in something before anyone else can see it.

Can you see it too? ✨

I'm on a roll today... email sent, posts made, and now this... a blog article. All because I took the time to piddle.

This morning was a rare gift for late May in Texas.A soft 70-degree breeze drifted through the garden while the sun slowly climbed above the Burton water tower. The flowers seemed happier. The birds sounded less hurried. Even the air itself felt gentler somehow.I wandered outside to inspect the gard...

It’s a beautiful morning to be out in the garden. A rare May morning with a soft 70-degree breeze blowing through.
Peaceful.

This morning, I’m piddling through the garden… or at least that’s what I first called it. Then I stopped and thought — no, this is my work.

Creating beautiful spaces.

Gathering lovely bouquets from this garden.

Creating room for someone else to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy it all.

There’s still time for a last-minute getaway at Flown The Coop Stays — The Roost, the Pink Peacock, the Pink Peachick, and Mimi’s House are waiting for you.

What are you waiting for?
