Sometimes a quilting project starts with a plan…

And sometimes the quilt looks at the plan and says:

“That’s cute. We’re not doing that.” 😂

It's a MYSTERY QUILT! Just kicking this off - Clues 1 and 2 are out, and Clue #3 is ready for pickup/shipping! If you haven't started this quilt, it's not too late. The colors are dark jewel tones from Kim Diehl's fabric lines - GORGEOUS! Finished quilt will measure approximately either 58x68 or 66x75. Call the store to sign up! 🪑✨ **WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY at Rocking Chair Quilts!** ✨🧵

🎯 **TODAY’S FOCUS: Measure First, Border Second!**

Ever finish adding your borders only to discover your quilt suddenly has a little… **ruffle?** 😳😂

The secret to nice, flat borders is simple: **Don’t just sew on a long strip and chop off the extra!**

📏 **THE 3-MEASUREMENT TRICK:**

1️⃣ Measure your quilt through the **top**.

2️⃣ Measure through the **center**.

3️⃣ Measure through the **bottom**.

➡️ Average those three measurements and cut BOTH border strips to that exact length.

Then pin the border at the **ends, center, and in between**, easing the quilt to fit the border as you sew.

🧵 **WHY DOES THIS WORK?**

✔️ Keeps your quilt square
✔️ Prevents wavy borders
✔️ Helps avoid stretched edges
✔️ Makes quilting easier
✔️ Gives your finished quilt a much cleaner look

✨ **BONUS TIP:** After adding the side borders, repeat the measuring process before cutting your top and bottom borders.

😂 Because when we say we want a quilt with **movement**, we do NOT mean the borders should be waving at us!

Sewing demo tonite!! If you want to sew along with me and make a really cute Christmas gift - here's what you need:

2 squares of the same fabric - about 8" square, but not bigger than 10" PLUS one small piece about 2-1/2x6"

1 square the same size of a coordinating or contrasting Christmas fabric

1 square (same size) Insul-Brite or batting scraps

Get your machine ready with matching thread and your iron hot!
