A Letter From the Heart — Knot Enuff Quilts & Antiques, Cabool, Missouri

Some letters are easy to write. This is not one of them.

In 2018, my mom, Fran Ramsey, opened the doors of Knot Enuff Quilts & Antiques in Cabool, Missouri, with a simple mission that meant so much to her: everyone should be able to afford beautiful fabric, everyone should feel welcome, and when they walked through the door should be greeted with a smile—and, quite possibly, leave with a hug.
That was my mom, Fran.

If the walls of this little shop could talk, I believe the first thing they would remember would be her laughter. They would tell you about the beautiful quilts that have passed through these doors, the projects spread across the tables, and the countless conversations shared between friends. These walls have heard stories that brought us to tears and stories that made us laugh until we cried. They have witnessed friendships begin, people helping one another, and a community connected by a common thread.

My mom was never one to pressure someone into buying something. What she freely gave away was kindness, generosity, encouragement and her willingness to help. If someone had a problem, Fran wanted to find a solution. If someone needed help, she wanted to help them. Customers became friends, and friends became family.

When we lost Mom in 2021, I knew there was no way I could ever replace her. I could only try to carry forward what she had created.

For nearly five years, I have done my best to continue her legacy here in Cabool. I know things could never be exactly the same without Fran behind that counter, but I hope somewhere along the way you have continued to feel a little bit of what she intended this place to be.

I could not have done it alone. Erma, Maggie, Bonnee, Carl and Missy next door you have been my backbone, your friendship, guidance, help and dedication have meant more to me than I could ever adequately put into words. You helped me carry something that was incredibly precious to my mom —and therefore incredibly precious to me. And there are others who helped along the way, THANK YOU and THANK YOU to all of you!
You continued walking through our doors. You bought fabric. You brought in quilts. You shared your lives with us. You encouraged me, supported the store and helped me keep my mother's dream alive.

That is why this next part is so difficult to write.

It is with a very heavy heart—and a whole lot of “I really don't want to”—that I am announcing that the Cabool, Missouri location of Knot Enuff Quilts & Antiques will be closing.
There isn't a final closing date yet. We will begin selling down our current inventory, and no new fabric will be brought into the Cabool location.

Information about sales and our final days will be shared as we move forward. Anyone interested in fixtures, antiques, furnishings or other items in the shop outside of the fabric inventory may speak directly with Tania.

Please understand that this decision has not been easy. This isn't simply closing a store to me. I'm closing the doors to a place that still holds a piece of my mom.
And that's really hard.
But I also know that Fran's legacy was never really contained within these four walls. It lives in the quilts you've made, the friendships formed here, the stories we've shared, the kindness you've shown one another—and perhaps in a piece of fabric from Knot Enuff that is now sewn into something someone will treasure for generations.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Cabool and the surrounding towns.
Thank you for loving my mom.
Thank you for supporting her dream.
Thank you for supporting me after she was gone.
And thank you for giving me nearly five more years to keep her little shop going. I could not have carried her legacy this far without you.

Our Knot Enuff Quilts & Fabric location in Springfield, Tennessee will remain open, and you will still be able to shop with us online through the Knot Enuff Quilts website. And don't think you're completely getting rid of me—I plan to come back to Cabool periodically to visit. I'm going to miss seeing all of you more than you know.

Mom always believed a quilt was more than fabric and thread. In many ways, this little store became its own quilt—pieces of people, stories, laughter, tears, friendships and memories, all stitched together over the years.
The doors may eventually close, but those stitches don't come apart.
With all my love, gratitude, and more than a few tears,

Tania TurranskyDaughter of Fran RamseyKnot Enuff Quilts & AntiquesCabool, Missouri

Carrying forward a legacy that began with fabric, friendship, kindness…and a smile.

Sometimes it’s hard to see the finish project when it comes to picking fabrics. Especially, if one of the fabrics is very unique. It has a dark tone, it has a light tone and maybe it kind of has a design that you don’t absolutely love. It’s interesting how different patterns can make any fabric in a quilt look amazing.
Check out this example. Pattern is posted in the comments.

Michelle came in a shared her first quilt. Trip around the world! She came in to the store a while back wanting some fabric to match her grandmother’s fabric. It was obvious it was important to her to find something that worked with this fabric of her grandmother’s. I think Michelle did a great job picking out colors and piecing her first quilt top. Today, she was able to get her backing, batting and binding fabrics to finish it.
Great job Michelle. Can’t wait to see the finished results!! Your grandma would be so proud of you.
