With an incredibly heavy heart, I have made the decision to go head and make this post.
There seems to be an incredibly gross misconception that this hobby is generating profits substantial enough for support.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love that however that was never in my mission statement or business plan.
Sweet Potato Crafts has always been a way for me to give back to my community in a very non-profit type of way.
But even non-profits have to creat enough financial support to run and so far that's just where we are.
I don't price my items to make much money but merely to cover cost.
In 2015, I had my first daughter and with her came all the cute girly items that we could not afford so I set out to make items for children that were affordable because all the smiles, joy and giggles are worth far more than what any price tag can carry.
Creating items that do that for people is beyond what I can charge for them 💕
Unfortunately we don't live in an economy that makes any bit of that an easy task. Plenty of times my items are over looked because people think they are too expensive and I understand because $8.00 for one washcloth is a lot -but-
the sales from that go towards paying my booth fees, equipment and resources to be there so that I can sell other items a lot lower or... plenty of times just give them to a grinning 5 year old that can't take their eyes off of Tony Tomato.
There have also been plenty of times I took profits and donated to foster families or Christmas Angel programs.
I do not like calling this a business because well.. it's really not. It never really has been. So moving forward there will be some changes to the way things operate.
Sweet Potato Crafts will remain the non-profit it was intended to be and "Sweet Potato Homestead" will emerge further as a business.❤️
